Yes but it worked because he had someone the opposite him and it made for entertaining tv. Now everyone is so boring and serious there is nothing to make him stand out and man he just really brings the excitement level down.

our fanbase is so big that a number of people want to run every prominent player out. Plenty of people want Nylander, Tavares and Rielly gone. Even Marner and Matthews get it sometimes. I don't think historically goalies have been particularly mistreated compared to guys like Kessel or Nylander tbh

You might be right. It seems like goalies have been getting it the worst but then again, our goalies have been kind of bad for the last 15 years. Then again, for the first 10 of those years everything was pretty bad so dunno, hard to say for sure.

My original point was that his save percentage is drastically down with a better D core in front of him. I never mentioned shot totals.

If you want to discuss shot totals then you need to begin by acknowledging that given the same Frederik Andersen the Leafs SHOULD be allowing fewer goals by virtue of Andersen posting roughly the same save percentage on a smaller quantity of shots. But obviously that isn't the case.

If you get into the more advanced metrics you can see evidence that his workload in terms of chances and high danger chances, which should boost save percentage, is lesser, but I didn't go there either.

I agree that Andersen sucks, I've wanted Campbell to be our starter for a while now. However I still can't understand with the talent that we have, why we can't score a game-tying goal against the lowly Sens and yet they scored 5 unanswered goals against us to erase a 5-1 deficit to a 6-5 win.

Oh and that stuff you said about getting cross checked and losing a tooth, just remember how much money these players make for that. They make more in one season (8 months) than many make in a decade or more (and that's compared to the league min, not what our stars are making).

I agree. We pay them enough to suck it up.
But hockey is an emotional game.
And they get paid either way (our big group anyway)

Should be clear by now Matthews and Marner want to play together. He's keeping his two best guys bought in and happy. When he split them up at the end of game, both had comments saying it's ok but they still want to play together.
