No. I don't agree. It's not a share-all situation. Liljegren is a big in boy big pants. A professional athlete.
Is Treliving not a professional GM in big boy pants? Is Berube not a professional coach in big boy pants? They have responsibilities too, and they took actions that hurt his trade value - paying him more than he's worth (I'm not sure how you can pretend to disagree when you keep going on and on about how garbage Liljegren is), and healthy scratching him for 90% of games and setting him up to fail when they're looking to trade him.

I lost patience with Liljegren after his poor playoff/post-deadline performances but considering he played reasonably well for the first 70ish games last season, it's pretty disappointing that he returned less than an utterly broken Olli Maatta and that we had to take Benning back too.

I don't know. I don't believe that this is a lawyer litigation moment: Berube 33% of the blame, Tre 34% of the blame, and Liljegren 33% of the blame.

Why don't you cut all the crap out of your discussion and tell us how Dubas would have dealt with Liljegren if he were in this situation.

Lawyer litigation? Percentages? What the heck are you talking about? You're the only one trying to make this more complicated than it is.
It's simple. Lilegren's trade value was hurt by his recent play, but it was also hurt by Treliving overpaying him, and Berube not playing him or setting him up for success.

Previous management would often pull the same stunt with players. Bringing in Mikko Lehtonen and Alexander Barabanov on mercenary prove me deals, give them zero runway to settle in and then explain dumping them for nothing as a promise to find them an NHL opportunity.

The common denominator is if you’re not in a team’s plans they won’t spend time building you up. Time to move on.

Yeah, but like, that was good, and this is bad.

No. It's all on Liljegren. He's semi-bum.

Lehtonen and Barabanov were overseas free agents that were signed to one year league minimum contracts as depth insurance in the covid year, under the agreement that they would be moved if they didn't earn a spot. We played them, and they didn't earn a spot over others, so we moved them for the expected return.

I'm not really sure how you're trying to equate this to re-signing an established, drafted mid-20s RHD for 3m and term, playing him for 1 game the next season, and then dumping him for a couple mid-low picks and a cap dump. Very obviously, not close to the same thing.
No. It's all on Liljegren.
His play? Yes. His trade value? No.

Why would you play a garbage defenceman? It would only tank his value more, if he had any to begin with. Overpaying him was a mistake, he didn’t deserve to be in the lineup though
