I'd be inclined to agree that the Leafs should fix the D over focusing on goaltending right now.

It's not that goaltending isn't the bigger need; there just aren't really any solid upgrades right now.

Woll has been decent, but he's got a grand total of 26 games of NHL experience. Martin Jones can play; and has performed at #1 levels before; and Samsonov has been a very solid tandem goalie through a decent chunk of his career.

Realistically, who are you going to add?
- Markstrom has a huge contract.
- Gibson has a huge contract, and hasn't been good in 5 years.
- Swaping Samsonov for Raanta sounds simple, but Carolina is likely to require some retention; and a that point you're kind of just shuffling deck chairs.

Cowan would get a first. Nobody is paying a first for the other three. The Leafs need D. Everyone knows it. The goalies would be fine if they had decent D in front of them. Even when healthy it’s a weak back end.

The defense, while FAR from perfect is not the reason Samsonov has a GAA of almost 4 and a save% of 871.

Samsonov has been a disgrace.

People keep saying there are no solid upgrades that's a straight up lie.

Anybody literally ANYBODY in the NHL would be an upgrade on Samsonov so long as they were healthy.

That's not an option because Woll is injured and unless I missed it, and That's certainly possible we don't know when he's coming back.
Personally, I would just ride this wave out. We are winning games still. Our team has wasted enough assets on mediocre goalies over the last 15-20 years. This is not the market that I would use more assets in

I hear Jack Campbell is available. Jack played the best hockey of his career as a Leaf.
I would take Jack back with serious salary retention. Better than Sammy and would be a good backup option given his history here

Only Habs fans will have such insane valuations to think a career .909 goalie in the AHL is worth a ton in the trade market.
I think any realistic Montreal fan knows Primeau doesn't hold much market value right now. He hasn't proven to be consistent over an extended stretch yet.

However, he's been in the system for a long time now and they chose to run 3 goalies instead of putting him on waivers, so the organization clearly values him, and he is starting to show his potential recently.

I would guess that his value to the organisation is more than his market value, therefore he won't just be given away.

Do wonder if an Allen/ Samonov trade could happen though? Although, I do think the Leafs should aim higher, but they're going need to put some chips on the table to do so.

It’s shocking how many GM’s don’t prioritize goalie drafting and development or prioritize trading for one. It really separates the true contenders from the rest imo.
Ideally you want two goalies who are at least average so that both are rested for the playoffs and one can step in to cover for injury or if the other falters.

You know what. I think cayden is a good goaltender. Do I think he’s worth a lot? No, I think he’s worth more than Allen and Montembault. Based off potential.

I also think Cayden, if you’ve watch any habs games, is a better goaltender than all three of Montreals goaltenders at the top of his game.

Do I think Toronto has better options? Yes

Do I think Cayden will get what Montreal is hoping for him? No.

But as a habs fan, I do think Cayden has the highest potential whether he’s reached it or not.
You are a massive Homer. Primeau is going to be nothing. It is okay to admit that.

Yup, that turned out poorly. I wonder who the Leafs would have drafted if they had kept the picks.
And that is exactly why I wrote "that the Ducks drafted..."

One thing is almost certain: Burke would not have drafted Gibson with his extremely poor record regarding goalies...
