Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

His type of injury is extremely hard to overcome. It's 6-8 months of rehab if they opt for surgery, which looks to be heading that way for Klingberg, and most players just never recover. He's already a bubble player, so Johnson likely made an educated guess.
What is the injury? All I've seen is hip related

Connor Timmons to the rescue :crossfing

Maple Leafs defenceman Conor Timmins close to returning from lower-body injury

The 25-year-old, who has yet to see the ice this season, practiced during the Leafs’ trip to Sweden. Timmins had practised last Wednesday on the second power play unit, an indication that he was close enough to play. By Friday, he was skating as the seventh defenceman, an indication he wasn’t going to play.

It's unfortunate that he hasn't been healthy for the last couple years. He was very effective early in his career in Dallas.

That being said, if everyone here knew he was cooked before the season, then why didn't the Leafs front office?

Between the scouts and the medical staff, I guess they figured he was healthy and might find his game again. They were wrong, but it’s merely a flesh wound

Last seasons Leafs Dcore ranked 28th in goals last year among the lowest scoring in the league, and the hope was the defensively challenged but offensively gifted Klingberg would be an offensive element the defense so badly needed.

Now likely done for the season hopefully his LTIR injury relief can allow BT to address this, with his replacement.
Last season the Leafs also had Erik Gustaffson after the deadline who had better production that Klingberg did and left the team for $825k this off season. They didn't really need a Klingberg type as they already had a left handed version of him who wasn't as poor defensively for 1/5th the cost.

It's very likely that Treliving just panicked when he couldn't get Dumba and signed Klingberg.

Treliving kinda got bailed out here by Klingberg's hips failing on him.

This Gustafson nonsense needs to stop. The guy got $825k, so it was quite obvious nobody in the league thought this guy was much of anything

Gotta feel bad for Klingberg personally. Never a good feeling to see someone’s career in jeopardy because of injuries.

That said, I love seeing the idiot fans of welfare franchises crying on the mains about cap circumvention and calling for investigations.

They took a risk like they did with Murray, knowing that they likely could LTIR him if it didn't work out.
