Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

I want this on the record. I'm claiming this now as my own: next time Klingberg makes a crazy play I'm calling him a Section 8.

He played fine last night. Let's hope he has more games like this then most of his other games as a Leaf.
He played much better than this in Minny last year. I expect he will come around once Keefe figures out how to use him but I would hope for a little better than last season.

If he is suspended does his cap disappear
Or
Does he retires

Did he get a signing bonus if so by the new year there maybe 1.5 mil left on the contract

Just looked at his contract a 2 mil signing bonus so by the new year he will have a 1 mil left on his contract.

He won't go to the AHL
Why not? He gets a raise (no escrow)

Is he on the IR, or does he get special treatment?

I'm going to assume he's pretty much on his way out and they're just protecting him from getting hurt, even in practice. I think you see that Calgary and Leafs trade announced once they're back from Sweden.

It always seemed obvious he was hurt, damaged goods when they signed him.

Im not educated well on the NHL cap .....so is there options to bury his contract? Would some team be dumb enough to claim Klingberg on waivers? A low level team that has cap space hopefully.

Just seems like a bad fit here ....his offenisve ability doesnt overcome his defensive liabilities.

Would Calgary take him in a trade? seems unlikely tho

Friedman threw out possibility of Robidas Island.

That would be a nice way to solve this problem...

Opens up enough cap to sign Kane if they think he is healthy enough to make an impact and reunite him with Domi.

I think the Sabres were the front-runner, but with Thompson injured, maybe he has changed his mind.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander
Robertson - Domi - Kane
McMann - Kampf - Jarnkrok

Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Liljegren
Gio - Timmins

Sammy
Woll

Defensively they definitely lack something, but offensively, not sure it gets much better (assuming Kane is fully healthy)

Kane is coming here for free .
I would think 5 mil plus bonuses that will push it to 8 mil.

We need a solid dman before Kane.

I can't see Kane getting 8 million... we will have like 4.5 free I think.

Our D gets better with the subtraction of Klingberg...

5 + bonuses for games played goals and point .
Bonuses will be paid next yr

We need a solid dman before Kane

Even with Klingberg gone you would then need another dman.

Gio ran out of juice last playoffs
Brodie same thing

We have a ton of offense

We needs a stronger d and pk for the playoffs

if Calgary is writing off the season they'll take him , he's on an a expiring deal and half his salary has already been paid in signing bonus , they can also retain and trade him for a pick at the t/d

Kane isn’t eligible for bonuses

I’m also not worried about Brodie. People are acting like he’s done, he’s not. I wouldn’t acquire someone his age now, and if opportunity allowed for it, I’d flip him for a younger shutdown D, but he is fine otherwise. He never got back on track after his injury last year, I don’t think he ran out id gas or juice or whatever people wanna call it

Please tell me they are Robidas Islanding him, that's so much cost savings.
If his hips a f***ed then get hip surgery
LTIR
maybe if surgery goes well try him in the playoffs if needed

Obviously not playing in Sweden is a big sign he isn't healthy.

If he keeps playing this way, that's the best he could hope for next year anyway. At least he could sell teams that it was injuries that were holding him back, if he just keeps playing like this, he's looking at a homecoming to sweden.
I think at a minimum salary he is OK.
A little PP, extra minutes when trailing.

At $4.whatever million KABOOM.

And I am not convinced that Timmins is a downgrade on the PP to KLING

klingbnerg barrire gardineer

never learn

same mistake

no brain

leafs mgmt

I'd give Gardiner a bit more credit.

I thought after game 1 maybe I was wrong about Klingberg...nope. It was the Barrie experience all over again. We already have Rielly, and that's really what you need. Another 2-way guy with half decent offensive instincts can probably handle PP2.

I agree.....I really liked what I saw from Timmins.....same with Lilly.......I know they were planning to give Lilly more top 4 minutes...as I really think he is a horse out there and when Reily was hurt last year.....Lilly stepped in and played great with alot of minutes.

Also I like the two other guys we have in our bottom pairing are playing well too.
