I’m a little scared he ends up becoming Barrie 2.0.
I’ll be honest - would’ve way rather Dumba to Klingberg, as Dumba at least provides something defensively and is physical.

I'll be honest, I hope he can put out Barrie level offense. Leafs NEED more offense, especially from the back end. It's been bleak last few years. I didn't look this up, but I'm confident they've been average at best in goal scoring from defensemen, especially from all the playoff teams.
The Leafs really only have Rielly with above average offense abilities. Liljegren is projecting ok but still average overall. Brodie is really good defensively but struggles badly in creating offense. McCabe has never scored more than 4 goals a season. Giordano is on his last legs. Even while struggling quite a bit, Klingberg was able to put up 10 goals last year, which would be tops on the Leafs.
We really underestimate what an offensive defenseman can do, especially on the PP and in terms of goal scoring abilities from the point.
Which really makes the Sandin trade even dumber. We got a late first (I'm ignoring the player who came to because he want really used and is gone).
I'd rather have had Sandin right now than Klingberg, but we'll see how this plays out.
Klingberg will man the #1 PP for awhile, unless it doesn't work out over time. But it indirectly helps PP2 since Rielly will be there instead of Giordano.Klingberg and Domi can make our PP2 pretty effective. Hoping they can work some magic there.
Even going back to the Florida series, if we had a Dman that was more offensive minded, it could have been HUGE that series.
Sandin needs a lot more work on his overall game and in the moment last season, he wasn't even going to play after McCabe was acquired. He struggled as a RD and struggled when given minutes. So I think getting some future value worked out. His offensive game is really good though for sure, and he'll get a better opportunity in Washington.
We'll see how Klingberg does on a better team though and a fresh mind set with a better cast.

He looked a little bit rusty in his preseason debut but the puck movement on that last PP was a nice little sampler pack of what he can do when he’s on. Direct a puck on net and distribute clean and crisp.
You do realize that the first round pick that came back turned into Easton Cowan, right?Which really makes the Sandin trade even dumber. We got a late first (I'm ignoring the player who came too because he wasn't really used and is gone).

I think you've covered a lot of ground here but why not dump on Shanny while you're at it?Klingberg stinks worse than whatever's in the bottom of my fridge where the vegetables are supposed to go.
Crappy player is crappy.
Klingberg wants to be a forward sooooo badly. He's given up even trying to be a defenseman proper. He's worse than Holl defensively ffs.
I'd really like to know what fancy stats Treliving was looking at when he signed this guy.
Any public stat available tells us Klingberg stinks. He looks like a good third pairing defenseman. Except he gets paid like a good second pair defenseman.
If he gets hurt and can't play their chances of winning go up.
The only reason he's getting top four minutes is because the coach stinks too. Like someone who paints with crap and calls it art. Might fool a few people into thinking it looks good but guess what?
It still stinks.
So does Klingberg.
His skill is very apparent whenever the Leafs have possession and are either moving north or in the offensive zone. It's almost inarguable that in the right situation, he can be an extremely valuable player.
Do I think that Keefe and the current make up of the roster are best for maximizing his game? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh maybe?
