Ok I know I'm the only one who cares about this but. He was in Belleville tonight. Do you think the Leafs waited for him to return before taking off, or does he take a regular flight, likely needing a connection. I'm so intrigued!

If he's in Belleville I assume he's flying from Toronto anyways. They most likely didn't wait for him but I don't think he'd need a connection.

You can fly Toronto to Raleigh non stop

One reason he signed with the Leafs was wahat he felt was best access to nutritionalists.
Can't keep any weight on...LIKE SEVERE can't.

6'5" 185 lbs

Gave of a Sparks vibe to me in his interview. Didn't love he said he really felt the nerves when called up to the AHL last year.

Super prospect, just way too early to rely on him except in situations like this.

There is no problem with nerves, it is how you handle them.

The vibe I get from Jack Campbell, is the world collapsing and I'm to blame. I always feel bad for the guy, and feel someone should put their arm around him and tell him it'll be okay.

Growlers, two starters, 3 games isn't a big enough stat to use accurately.

Campbell suffers from Mental Health issues, it appears depression at times. Super nice guy, but situations like these aren’t good for him, and can have a snowball effect. It wouldn’t shock me if he went on IR shortly to regain his mental faculties.

Basic logic isn't nothing. As in who chooses to sign a flat ~$70K/year AHL contract over an NHL ELC contract that at minimum pays out a yearly $70K+ bonus plus $70K/year?

Someone who sees an easier path to the NHL getting paid an NHL salary…. By not signing an NHL deal, Petruzzelli will make 70k in a single day

The earliest commercial direct flight Pearson to Raleigh I could find leaves 2:05 this afternoon and gets in Raleigh at 3:52 just under an hour before game time. That seems risky when he could have taken a flight this morning and been in Charlotte by 10:30 likely with an easy connection or a 2 hour drive to Raleigh and be there already.

No guarantees, but basic logic is nothing if it's being led astray by bad intel. A couple of things
A- direct AHL contracts are not bound by ELC pay structure, so there's a good chance the pay was at least neutral, if not in his favour
B- little known fact but tonnes of players turn down ELC's all the time. To get the 2nd year of post draft rights a Bona-fide offer must be made. So any CHL drafted player that goes two years then re-enters the draft unsigned has turned down an ELC. Any CHL drafted player signs in that second year had previously turned down an ELC. Why would they do that? Without some combination of bonuses, likely NHL playing time, being well above minimum the mandated two-way pay scale of an ELC makes them seriously unattractive.

Edit- and to add, while it is certainly possible for the Leafs to have put an AHL contract in front of him more attractive than certain ELC packages, it's more plausible for the offers to not have been there at the same time. With his pedigree he might have wanted a better ELC than Detroit offered, then had to make do with the best alternative he could find when the offers weren't there. Wouldn't be the first player to misread the market

Definitely fortunate the way it worked out with Aube-Kubel just getting claimed so we had a contract spot for this worst case scenario. Welcome Petruzzelli. Look forward to watching him get a game or two. Haven't liked Kallgren this season at all

Mlse/Rodgers/Bell might have a PJ as well. But yeah commercial would be a risk

If they do maybe there's something closer to there that would work. Hopefully SN does a feature on it if it's interesting

Huge break for the kid. He needs to go into Dubas' office and tell him his goaltending worries are over, alla Mike Palmateer.
Or Rocky Saginuik when he came into the dressing room from the “A” just scoring 47 goals there and claiming to be the replacement for Lanny …
It didn’t go well for him
Tiger taught Rocky sone valuable lessons that night …

Petruzzelli started one of the pre-season games against Detroit or Ottawa right? I don't remember him looking that good but maybe he's found a comfort level. But mostly hope Samsonov isn't out for too long.

Players playing in the AHL signed to NHL deals take home about 50k after taxes. And unless you know exactly what his contract was with an AHL deal. For all we know petruzellis contract with the Marlies could be anywhere from 48k, league minimum, to 20 million or more as there is no league cap on contract price

Many possibilities.

But likely they put him on an MLSE corporate jet.

The Leafs charter last night was AC 7046

Kid's a legit prospect, elite height and very solid numbers at every competitive level except the NHL so far. Still at a great age for development too. Maybe he can be a dark horse among the elite crop of US-born goaltenders starting to make names for themselves in the NHL

ELC deals contain signing bonuses.

Pretty bold move to turn down an NHL ELC from the Red Wings for an AHL contract. #thingsthatneverhappened

Actually this happens more than you think in other scenarios.

For example sometimes college players will turn down an elc to play a 4th college year in part to hit free agency and sign where they like. And in those instances the player doesn't get paid anything (just tuition and room and board coverage)

This really isn't any different than that.

That likely would have been his 2nd or 3rd game action in months and his 1st time against NHL squads. Can't really read too much into it. He's doing better so far in the AHL than any other goalie we've had since Sparks big year.
