Robertson outproduced McMann.
Holmberg is not far off and was more productive the year prior.
McMann is so overrated on our board.
I saw tons of Leafs disappear all last year, yet you are penciling them as a potential roster player.
If roster spots are dictated by play Cowan is likely going to be ahead of Dewar, Reaves, and a few other, and then get sent down anyway.
Who cares about draft position? It is irrelevant.
No one is considered because there are no open spots.
We collect 4th liners and 6th Ds, it is the hobby of our GM.
Quillan is a long shot, just another example of a guy ho can probably hang in the NHL and should be pushing for a job but has close toa 0% chance because of plugs crowding the roster.
Prospects develop while playing in the NHL too.
Why does every other team play young players and we play AHL level players like Reaves?
The Hunter drafts all sucked, thank god we had competent drafting recently and have a bunch of prospects ready to break in.
I think Minten, Cowan, Greb, Hildeby, and Niemela are all likely NHLers around the same time, then they will think that there are too many rookies and start over cooking prospects and wasting them.
You think a better time to play them is when Tavares takes a pay cut and we have more cap to work with? Makes sense...
By 3 points and McMann scored 1 more goal. He's not overrated on this board, Robertson is. McMann brings everything Robertson does but can actually over power people and skate by them. McMann got hurt and Robertson and Holmberg got paired together on the 3rd line and did nothing. Got outscored by the 4th line.
Who did I pencil in that disappeared? 4th line? They actually got better as the season went on. The core? Well, I don't see them being in the press box.
Roster spots are dictated by play for the most part, but this is a cap league so guys won't make it even if they played well for that reason alone. We're not the only organization who would do that as well. We've rushed prospects too many times so lets maybe develop them a bit longer even if they have a good camp. Also, if a lot of these players only provide 1 thing we already have many of then why would we keep them? All 12 forwards shouldn't be providing you with the same thing.
I'd say being drafted 213th overall and expecting them to make the NHL roster after 1 AHL season where he missed almost half the season due to injury is pretty relevant.
Previous GMs liked to trade our 1st and 2nds for those 4th line players and 6th d men. I guess that was their hobby. Would rather collect them now and keep our 1st and 2nd round picks for ourselves or to get top 6 forward or top 4 d man wouldn't you?
If he outplays them and is good enough then why would you be worried about plugs that are competing with him? Should be easy competition for him then.
It can also hurt their development just as much. How many players have we seen rushed to the NHL and be terrible and then go somewhere else after a few years and become the player everyone thought they were.
We aren't. You just think that for some reason. Our teams average age last year was like 28(probably would be lower if Gio wasn't 39 or 40 years old) which is pretty much the average for every playoff team in the league. The only teams that play a lot of younger players are teams that are competing for the lottery picks.
I think all 5 will be ready for the NHL around the same time and they'll get to start off in the against easier competition to start.
How much of a discount you think he's gonna take? Stamkos just got 8 mil for being a PPG player and 40 goal guy. That's roughly around what Tavares is except the 40 goal guy. Are him and Nylander just gonna swap cap hits? Nylander gets the 11.5 and Tavares around 7? So yes, when all these new deals come in I think having these ELCs at one time does make sense. Lets do some math/projections to see why it makes sense. Matthews, Nylander and Rielly we already know their cap hits, I'll project Tavares to be around 7 mil and Marner around 12.5. All those combined would be almost 52 million with the projected cap hit that season being 92 million. Knies will need a new contract. Wolls new deal kicks in then. McCabe probably gets an extension. So yes, having all those ELCs and low cap hits would really help the team out for those 3 years.
