Pacioretty turned out to be a great signing eh Brad.

Way to promise him a contract before even seeing him practice with the team. Another vet with amazing leadership skills. Useless as all hell when it comes to actually playing hockey though.

As hard as it is to believe this signing makes even less sense now that when it was first reported.

And it didn't make any sense at all when it was announced. The team said they were signing Pacioretty. But all I heard was they were wasting a million dollars and a roster spot.

Like I'm sure Pacioretty is a nice guy.

Too bad character doesn't win hockey games. The Leafs need to stop signing all these old men who have nothing to offer but veteran leadership. Look for younger guys with a mean streak who have at least replacement level skill.

I don't care if he's the biggest prick in the world so long as he can put the puck in the net.

Yes he has turned out to be a great signing so far, in fact all Brad's signings have been great so far.

Both were great signings.

Signing 3 depth guys from the Stanley Cup winner for cheap was a damn good strategy.

And getting a semi-healthy Patches is great. We are talking about a 7 time 30+ goalscoring big winger, who, while maybe a bit old, is now looking to be finally healthy again.

He's an upgrade over Bertuzzi, and for 1/5th of the cap hit.

There's still lots of time left for him to start to stink again too...
Absolutely. But your initial post was way too early. Give the guy a chance. If he does nothing during the playoffs then it’s a good time to question the no risk signing. I just don’t see how we can fault the GM who is trying and it’s no risk. At least he’s taking a shot at it and seeing if there’s more gas in the tank for this guy

What fun is that?

I think the flaw in your logic is assuming it's a no risk signing. Is Pacioretty a 35+ contract. Because if so then if he retires or they try to demote him his cap hit still counts.

If they end up trading or waiving a good young player like Robertson or McMann due to cap constraints, while keeping Pacioretty, there should be be much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Edit: he's only on a one year contract so I don't think the 35+ rules apply, but my point still stands, in that if they keep Pacioretty while losing valuable young assets off the roster Treliving should be shoved out the door.

Bert is showing again this yr how overrated he is.

I find it funny how players like that get a pass …maybe it’s a Canadian thing…supposed tough players but more of a liability defensively on the ice then what they offer offensively . It’s like the two habs Gallagher and Anderson making a career on this supposed reputation and you look at all 3 of their production compared to their cap hits over the yrs and it shocks me they don’t get called out more.

Maybe it’s how their names are spelled on their Jersey that protects them from criticism

Pac looks firmly entrenched on our second line, what a shrewd pickup it looks like and cheap too.
