I see more of a Holl move than a Kerfoot one.

They already have too many bodies on defence, that's where the cap space goes from.

Likely don't see the Holl trade until after Sandin is signed, since Holl is insurance on any offer sheet or if Sandin sits out.
This makes sense.

So far:

Kase -> Jarnkrok
Mikheyev -> NAK

With the same major question marks in goal. Can't say we've improved any aspect of the roster.

Kerfoot doesn't need to be upgraded on production wise but there needs to be a different look on LW. That should be the priority now, not guys like Motte/ZAR/etc.

This is a good signing. I like Benn and really like Jarnkrok. Jarnkrok has some snarl. Good all arounder.

Good by Kerfoot and Holl, which frees up 5.5 and change. We still have the space to sign a pretty good lower pair D man with some bite.

I already like this team better than last years team. Now if we could only get a coach that knows what he is doing.

agreed. I think its time to move on from Nylander and bring in the stud d we need. Nylander is a coward and lets up going into corners. We don't need a player like that.

I have a sneaky feeling Nylander is the one going. He didn't play well with Tavares last season and if he doesn't fit well there, I don't know where he can play.

They have about ~$1million in space right now, which could become ~$2million if they waive Simmonds.

So it's possible that they resign one, but almost impossible to sign both of them without someone out the door.
I don't think they waive Simmonds. Clifford on the other hand....

I asked this in the main board thread as well, but what is the difference between signing a 27-year-old to an 8-year deal and a 31-year-old to a 4-year deal? Both end when the player is 35.
You’re at least getting 27-31 (prime) with the 8 year

Both end when the player is 34 actually.

The player whose 27 is going to be paid for the type of player they are at 27, which is essentially the very peak of a guys prime. The 30 year olds contract is going to reflect the type of player they are at the twilight of their primes.

Ie guys in their 20s command more money than guys in their 30s as a broad rule.

Thought this was interesting in regards to Kerfoot and perhaps the myth he helps wherever he goes…

Kerfoot has always struck me as a guy that would be difficult to play with

He has a feral aspect to his game which makes it difficult to read what he is going to do with the puck

$1.4 million cheaper, so that's a positive.
That’s true

Gives us more cap room. When can use it to get someone in the top 6 or at the deadline trade for someone. Either use all your cap space or save it for more room at the deadline.

Team should be good enough to be in the mix come the deadline.
That’s true…….hopefully they are good enough but I’m thinking that will depends on our new goalies

Think he'll be a 3rd line RW with Kerfoot being on the other wing and Kampf at center.
Expecting a Muzzin trade for a 2nd line LW, someone with at least 2 years left on their deal and that plays with a bit of an edge but still produces 40+ points. Maybe someone like Saad?

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Saad - Tavares - Nylander
Kerfoot - Kampf - Jarnkrok

Pretty solid top 9.

????? Kase isn’t better

And what miky are we talking about. The one for 100 games or the last 6 weeks?

Fair enough. But what I'm trying to understand is why people are saying that a 4-year $2.1M contract for a 31-year-old is too long. I don't hear many people saying that an 8-year deal to a 27-year-old is too long. l;

Just spitballing here, but if we trade Sandin for a prospect like Dylan Hollowell (placeholder name) who could grow in a forward role and has great upside and is cost controlled, it’s not the end of the world. Not saying Hollowell, but recently drafted first round forward with positive development.
I have been on the Barrett Hayton boat for Sandin.....

Can't take cash/salary back now. Has to be picks and or prospects in a Muzzin trade, unless he is packaged with Kerfoot to a team that needs to reach the floor.

I would prefer moving Holl because then you have 3.5+ for a RHD if you can get engvall and sandin at a good number or if you move Sandin

Solid signing imo

Check that math was off you'd have to move both Holl and kerfoot for picks even then gives us a little room for the RHD
