Barring some type of catastrophe, or miracle, Hildeby doesn't see the NHL for two-three years. He's 21, and has plenty of time to grow his game. Petruzelli would be ahead of Hildeby for a NHL backup role. You just can't go with that kind of inexperience.

Jones might not be great, but it's veteran experience. If somehow Hildeby or Petruzelli shine in the AHL, and there is an opportunity in the NHL, they still might get games, as Jones would need to pass through waivers... they might save him until they really need him.

Why can't Hildeby be #3? Why does he need experience? I don't look at it any differently than a good goalie being brought over to the NHL from the SHL.

Hildeby is better than Kallgren and we gave him NHL games as the #3.

Did you see Hildeby in his two AHL games? It was ugly.

Why though
Check the last few years.
3 years ago Rittich and Hutchinson played 12 games
2 years ago we needed Hutchinson, Woll, Kallgren to play 20 games for us.
Last year Woll and Kallgren 17 games (I won't count Alexander jett)

That is 49 games over the last 3 seasons played by goalies that started the year 3rd string or lower. Thats a lot of games.

We did give Kallgren NHL games and his save% started with a .8 which is a fail.

Last time Jones was in the playoffs for more than a period he had 20 games, .898 3.02 and a 10-9 record. That was 5 years ago.

This time Sammy had 9 games, .898 3.12 and a 4-4 record.

He hasnt been better than Sammy in the playoffs since he was losing to the likes of Matt Murray.
Ok so worst case they're equally shitty and you can save a few dollars against the cap by having Jones backup an uncontested Woll

Or one is a young (only a year older than Woll) recent first round pick who had a fantastic season with potential to still grow and the other is a 33 year old who hasnt been good in 6 years, neither in the regular season or the playoffs.

Edit: Not to mention Sammy had a .912 just the season before in the playoffs on a much worse team.

Where did I say any of that?

And it could be both, just ask Seattle. He helped save their season and was a major reason for them making the playoffs, then went back to being garbage.

Because Woll wont pass through waivers and Samsonov is the starter. They signed Jones to be number 3, and to be number 3 he must pass through waivers.

Which part is difficult for you to understand? I will help as much as i can.
Lol. Yeah I get it. I had a total brain freeze and thought we could send Woll to the Marlies without having to go through waivers.

Samsonov was a 1st rd pick that his own team walked away from as an RFA that's never been able to get it done in the playoffs. He's done nothing to show any different since.

He is what he is, and unless you have an absolute wagon of a team in front of him he won't be winning any cups as a starter

My biggest worry is that Jones will immediately be claimed by a team with a shit backup. Chicago, Tampa, LA, Vancouver... hell he'd be the starter in Chicago and LA.

Like Martin Jones the last 5 years ugly?

No, like 5.28 GAA, 0.828 SV percentage ugly. I think he's got some potential, but he's just not close to ready. Like not even close. Give the kid a break and let him develop.

That is the same as Jones.. if we are going to get bad goaltending, I'd rather give an SHL goalie with a .920 who is our prospect a look.
You don't want to throw a kid to the wolves as your first alternative.

4th string goalies have gotten PT in the last 3 years, having Hildeby as your 3rd string with a rookie in Woll as #2 would be fireable offence for a GM to leave the goalie cupboard that bare.

This says to me that BT isn't convinced about Woll being an NHL goalie.

For a goalie to be lost on waivers at season's start requires other teams to have injuries and worse options. Chances are that Jones passes through waivers.

Hasn't everyone told us that goalies are voodoo? Maybe this goalie reverts to his form of 5 year's ago.

Samsonov was 6th in the NHL in save percentage last year and 1st in high danger save%

Great year for a still young goalie with a 1st round pedigree.

I'm not arguing he had a good regular season. This team is full of regular season performers.

Look what he's done in the playoffs.
