So our biggest connection in free agency is getting objectively one of if not the worst players in the game, and signing him at age 36 to a multi-year deal...

We're going full clown show boys... :damnpc:
I think the players felt better knowing his presence would retrain opponents goons from taking cheap shots at them.
Except that's not a thing. Opponent goons will still take the same number of cheap shots, with or without Reaves on the bench.
Now we just get to lose while it happens.

It's a rumour. It could happen because Dubas liked soft and weak players. He stupid enough to think you just need skill and that's it. Reeves would be like Simmonds but actually play in some games. He is there to keep are soft stars safe and protect Mathews from getting injured. Only fear protects your Starz and Toronto has no pushback. They had to add how many guys to win one round?

It doesn’t matter how intimidating you are if they can’t catch you. Hope I’m wrong, but he’s too old, a fourth line boat anchor that drops the gloves isn’t what we need, we need grit and toughness that can play. Yikes.

I remember him lighting up the leafs this year. Wouldn’t mind him.

Pagnotta is a pretty reliable source.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but, Reaves is over 35, so this will likely be a "35+" contract. Meaning, that if he retires at any point during the contract, it will still count against the cap.

Dear God. This better be for no more 1 mil per if it's true.

:puke:

It isn't April 1st. is it?

+35

Trade me along with Nylander please.

Many did not want Lucic, so Tre pivotting to Reaves.

Not my first choice but not going to freak over it if he also signs a McLeod, Bastian, Duchene, Brown, Erne. Bertuzzi gonna be too expensive IMO.

If it takes multiple years to get him, better be at a number you can bury him with the Marlies without any cap implications.

We have been down this road before.. Never works. Some fans are fascinated with slow terrible hockey players that can fight. Reeves went to Pitt yr ago to help them get tough and was a complete failure. The Don Cherry effect strikes again
Get big guys that can hound pucks and skate not a guy that should retire

As usual, the Leafs are an hour late and a dollar short and I like what he brought 5 years ago. LOL.

This will definitely help the three bozos to show up in the playoffs (I guess 4 if u wanna count captain bozo).

Whatever, honestly no one should be surprised when the team gets bounced in the first round.

This is bad. Why not just sign or trade for gritty SKILL? Always acquiring guys that can’t even play or justify a spot in the lineup.
This is where I'm at. I'd much rather trade for a guy like Crouse who can play in the top 9, is much younger, and can actually bury a few goals here and there.

Supposedly we are going after bertuzzi too, so hopefully that means reaves will be getting around league minimum.

That said he's s good open ice hitter and I don't mind adding that to the team and if the coach puts him on the ice while say Bennett is on the ice, would that make our top 6 guys play better just because they feel safer? Psychologically I would say there is merit to that, but will it actually play out like that :dunno:

I hope Schenn gets signed as well as others you are describing.

At least those leaf fans who are faint of heart can be relieved to know that Reaves won't be replacing Nylander in the top 6.

Look. By July 1979 everyone had shed all their tears and had come to grips with the fact that Lanny was mistreated and traded. That was a shitty midseason and I'm taking about shitty offseasons.

And yes, I know it's meaningless if bigger changes don't happen, but this is just another piece of news this week that indicates those changes aren't coming. This is what I'm talking about and IT'S EXACTLY WHY THIS OFFSEASON IS SO BLEAK.

We need big, fundamental changes and instead Treliving is tinkering around the edges, like Dubas used to, except in awful, ham-fisted ways.
Pretty sure we're talking past each other at this point and both of us want the same thing.. Do better Leafs your fans deserve it.

Now that I think about it ... the strategy must be 11 + 7

If you're only rolling 3 lines does it matter if you have a guy who only dresses for 3/4 the games and plays 8 minutes?

This wouldn't be a hockey move it is a perception move.

Reaves is going to play somewhere next season.
His acquisition cost is ZERO.
This team needs toughness.

What is not to like if the contract is reasonable?
