They need to be afraid to come off the ice after floating for a shift and to be held accountable every shift.
Once again, the Don Cherry contingent of this fanbase wants to pretend that a player is something he isn't just because they like the way he plays.

- Reaves plays under 9 minutes a night
- He's slow
- He doesn't play defense
- He doesn't score
- He's been healthy scratched in the playoffs with New York last year during their run and Vegas in multiple deep runs they've had. Vegas btw won the Cup while being the least penalized team in the league
- He's 36 years old
- We had McCabe, Schenn, Bunting, Acciari on the team last season who could fight and they were told not to by the coach who we're bringing back. We also still have Kyle Clifford in the minors.

What is Ryan Reaves bringing to this team except fan fiction for people who don't watch hockey? I have no god damn clue but there's a lot of you people.

I am sure he will sit at the end of the bench and yell really well at the other team after they take their shots at our star players who he will never be on the ice with.

If the cap hit is low, and by low I mean close to league min, it probably doesn't matter. Teams add these level players all the time, and yes, even Dubas did. At multiple levels. He's a veteran and probably can help in the locker room and all that jazz.

The fact that this is a priority though is really bizarre. He's been run out of many different teams for being useless. Not sure that will change here. We'll see what other signings and moves the team has to complement this kind of signing.

So far coming off a playoff run where we averaged 2 goals in our final seven games, were shredded by Florida on the rush (80% of their 5v5 goals came on the rush) the Leafs have opted to:

1) Overpay for David Kampf, noted offensive black hole

2) Target a 6'4 dman who can't skate with one of their three draft picks

3) Play hardball with William Nylander in contract negotiations, the only player on the team who consistently puts up numbers in the playoffs

4) Sign 36 year old 4th line winger Ryan Reaves to a multi-year deal. The same Ryan Reaves who has been healthy scratched in the playoffs with Vegas and the Rangers during their recent deep runs.

We really became the dumbest front office in the league overnight.
Wait until the end of summer before going on such a tirade. Still plenty of time.

In his prime, he was a force. The dude has played 108 career playoff games. That couldn't happen if he were defensive liability. Don't worry he barely ever fights because nobody wants to fight him.

Still, this is Plan B or Plan C for a team that needs to harden up. And it's been tried before. He isn't ideal due to his age above everything else.

The amount of idiots here who celebrated Treliving as a clear upgrade over Dubas when he:

- Never made the playoffs more than 2 seasons in a row with Calgary
- Overpaid for: James Neal, Michael Frolik, Troy Brouwer,
- Opted to bridge Matthew Tkachuk over signing him to a long term deal
- GM'd a team that never made it past the 2nd round in twice the amount of time that Dubas was GM of the Leafs.

Dumbest fanbase in the league, dumbest fan community, dumbest hockey forum.
Wait, I thought Shanahan made all the decisions?

Or was that only the decisions that ultimately didn’t work out for Dubas?

We are going to be a much worse team next year. Just feel it in the bones. Our front office has gone from average to straight up bad. Joy.
Geez, you feel it in your bones huh. Let's call off the season. Wait, free agency hasn't opened yet.

We will have to wait and see what happens but the trouble with players like Reaves, Simmonds, Clifford is that we don’t play their game and they don’t play ours.
We aren’t gritty skilled.

1) Overpay for David Kampf, noted offensive black hole

2) Target a 6'4 dman who can't skate with one of their three draft picks

3) Play hardball with William Nylander in contract negotiations, the only player on the team who consistently puts up numbers in the playoffs

not sure why you need Reeves when you have Simmonds. He may not be as big, but he is certainly tough and rarely loses a fight. And he can score a goal or two…

but I will edit my post and add this thought….Reaves added a lot to Minnesota when he went there last year. I think the players felt better knowing his presence would retrain opponents goons from taking cheap shots at them. So, Reaves’ reputation is a good thing to have around….he doesn’t even need to fight….just be there ….

We're definitely gonna need him if Lucic signs in Boston and the Big Three continued to play soft And let themselves get pushed around.

And walked O’Reilly and Schenn to free agency

I don’t mind the Reaves signing but the Kampf over pay stings.

Early days but not the best start here

I haven’t seen reaves play the last … few years

I don't think anyone is really against adding Reaves..... it's adding Reaves for multiple years at +1 million that I have an issue with.
That’s part of it. The other part of it is not being linked to anyone else who’d at least be a regular?
Today might be less awesome rhan I hoped .

We need toughness and he’s as tough as they come. Better be cheap though
We need toughness in the core.
A Sam Bennett or Tkachuk in for Huberdeau is a toughness change.

A Matt Martin, Clifford, Simmonds for Reaves really isn’t.

Pagnotta is a pretty reliable source.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but, Reaves is over 35, so this will likely be a "35+" contract. Meaning, that if he retires at any point during the contract, it will still count against the cap.

Dear God. This better be for no more 1 mil per if it's true.

Is that a frickin joke???
