you have to account for missed chances as well. Knies scoring one more time when Matthews passed the puck literally means nothing. It completely ignores that Marner or Matthews (just to keep it fair) could have created more slot or high danger opportunities for Knies and he missed the net or got saved. Again, context completely matters. Without context, this type of data is meaningless. It also ignores the fact that Matthew’s goal scoring is way down this year and he’s not the same player.
It’s just basic, maybe it’s the teacher in me, but anytime he/she posts it makes my head explode. I don’t understand the rational behind using cherry picked stats and people eating it up.
