I enjoyed Chicago's second goal, when the winger spun quickly and Max fell over rather than spin to catch him...
 
Domi's woes are exasperated by the fact that he's our fifth highest paid forward and 3C.

He'd be the 7th or 8th highest paid forward on Caps, Stars, Panthers, and a third line winger.
 
I wouldn't be against moving Domi at the deadline if anyone will take him, but if not then give him this one playoff run and see what he does. If he doesn't perform then move him ASAP in the offseason.
 
He is a 3.75mil player playing on the 3rd line with very little PP time.
Can’t expect him to score 30/30, lol.

I think Domi is playing at the right line and getting paid league average for a mid 6 forwards playing on the 3rd line and can move up to the 2nd or even 1st line.
But he is not a 3C.

Marner pacing 10 goals in 1200 mins
Domi pacing 8 goals in 1200 mins

Does Marner suck or is Domi amazing?

Uhh..Domi plays primarily with Mcmann and Robertson.

Tavares and Matthews are much better passers and goal creators than Mcmann and Robertson.

Domi scores one more goal and him and Marner are pacing the same goals/60 5v5. Which is incredible considering how much negativity Domi has caught for not scoring.

Marner is the better passer. That stat suggest otherwise, but I'm sure there are many others stats that will favor Marner

Yeah that's true, Domi also doesn't play with a lot of players that can pass, so it's probably not great to compare Domi and Marner solely based on goals scored

Minimize other stats (such as secondary assists) - check

Completely ignore that getting more primary assists doesn’t automatically equally a better passer or playmaker, you’re purposely ignoring other elements like vision, pass accuracy - check

That is very interesting being that Hes played even less with knies then he has with marner but then again we know marners a playmaker himself that lines better with Willy to me and marners more dual threat with jt but for some reason marner is glued to Matthews LOL

He does cherry picc but what good does that do marner is the best play maker on the team primary assists should be his stat since he’s killing everyone on the team by a wide margin in assists period so again that is an interesting stat

It’s not interesting at all. It’s just more bullshit to feed a narrative.

you have to account for missed chances as well. Knies scoring one more time when Matthews passed the puck literally means nothing. It completely ignores that Marner or Matthews (just to keep it fair) could have created more slot or high danger opportunities for Knies and he missed the net or got saved. Again, context completely matters. Without context, this type of data is meaningless. It also ignores the fact that Matthew’s goal scoring is way down this year and he’s not the same player.

It’s just basic, maybe it’s the teacher in me, but anytime he/she posts it makes my head explode. I don’t understand the rational behind using cherry picked stats and people eating it up.

You have to admit that marner who has waaaaaaay more assists then everyone else shouldn’t have less primary assists to Matthews than Matthews to knies it’s been a weird year

:laugh: You'd have look at each assist and do a deep dive. But my guess is that Knies goals are mostly from tips in or around the net, so maybe the primary assists are off of Matthew's shots or rebounds /loose puck from Matthew's shots.

I don’t see how it’s even a relevant argument. Or important even? It just seems like a dumb statement to attack one player IMO.

I’d need to watch each of the assists to see how the plays developed. If for example, Marner did all the work, passed to Knies then he passed to Matthews then that could explain why the numbers are like that. Or Marner shoots on net, Knies tips and Matthews cleans up. Knies’ tip gets him the primary assists.

Same would be true for Marner, if Matthews did all the work and then Marner does a quick pass to Knies, that could skew the numbers away from Matthews and more in favour to Marner. Without watching each goal/play individually you don’t have the right context to make a statement like that.

Marner alone having more primary assist than Matthews AND Nylander together.+ big part of matthews primary assist is off a rebound

Marner doesnt have more primary assists per 60 mins than Matthews and Nylander.

5v5 Marner averages 1.09/60

5v5 Matthews averages 0.86/60
5v5 Nylander averages 0.52/60
Together: 1.38 primary assists/60

Matthews has 7 primary and 11 total assists on Knies goals

Marner has 6 primary assists and 7 total assists on Matthews goals.

Matthews has just 1 primary assists and 2 total assists for Marner.
