Depends on what you're grooming him for?

Not saying Nylander is a role model ... he's not one of the teacher's pets ...

But I'm sure I've heard mention that he's (Knies) a great skater. Maybe not Tuch great, but someone who could keep up with Nylander.
I’m not really from a skill perspective but a work and commitment level standpoint
Yes imagine Knies becoming the next Nylander lol. Truly a worst case scenario
imagine if he because the next Nylander wilt a Gary Roberts work ethic. The best case scenario

Nylander and Knies are not similar players. The best NHL comparison for Knies is James Van Riemsdyk. They are very similar players

Most of his goals were scored in tight.
Going to the dirty areas.
Was kind of forced to playing with Cooley and Snuggeraud, especially on the PP. His shot is one of the most lethal tools he possesses but it's also good he can drive the net and score that way as well if he can't always get the shot off.

My post was tongue in cheek. It's unlikely he gets it in one fell swoop.

What I was commenting on is how surreal that would be: just finish school and already be positioned to make more money than most would make in 10-15 years of working, while digging one's way out of tens of thousands of dollars of student debt.......
He’ll get about 25k in Salary. ( It’s prorated (5/186 days x 925k)
92.5k signing bonus
That’s it.

Seems like after every showcase people are making excuses for why this kid coundn't produce offense. I'll be happy if he even becomes a defensively sound 3rd liner.

That would be a very solid return on a late 2nd.

He did produce offence. His stats in the NCAA the last 2 years have been good and he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker. No excuses needed.

Is it even possible to set the bar lower than this for expectations? Kyle has no problem finding defensively sound 3rd liners who produce zero offense in free agency, if he's wasting our top pick in a draft on that he's doing it wrong.

Sure, but he literally is a more physical version of JVR. Same type of scoring presence and work on the boards. Only difference is Knies lays the body
i personally think Anders Lee is the closest comparison i can think of for Knies as far as tools, play style and potential upside are concerned

Anders Lee is another good comparison. I think he has hands that are more similar to JVR and can play off the rush just like JVR that's why I say JVR. But I can see Anders Lee as well.

Put him with Marner tonight and watch him match Auston’s 4 goal NHL debut… Magic Mitch on fire chasing milestones.

I think in terms of puck movement and shooting that's not a bad comparison..Knies uses his body more in a classic power forward sense than JVR though
