Oh, you mean way back in the 6 team league era where it took 8 games to win a cup.

How about regular season?
Yeah thats what every hockey player grows up dreaming about. Regular season wins and loser points.

And yes those loser points and 3 point games are why the most recent seasons are the ones where the team set records for point totals.

And very few players outside of Canada.

Yeah, those were legit.

You mean the best 5 year stretch in team history?
Lol

1999-2004 (6 years but still) stretch was better than the current stretch and we didnt win a cup then either

R3, R2, R2, R3, R1, R2

Had 7 series wins in these 6 years while still being a good reg season team and a contender throughout the period

We were good for ~98 pts per 82 games or a .591 pt % over this stretch in the reg season when there were still ties and the 2nd pt in games were lost out. Had 52 ties over this 6 year period.

Say we get half those as wins thats another 26 pts or pushes up closer to a 103 pt/82 reg season team over that 6 year stretch while also being a great playoff team that had several deep runs

If Stanley Cups count:

(1917–18, 1921–22, 1931–32, 1941–42, 1944–45, 1946–47, 1947–48, 1948–49, 1950–51, 1961–62, 1962–63, 1963–64, 1966–67).

These are what winners look like. Other than Ballard, what a bunch of beauties.

From what I've seen, Domi will actually protect teammates, almost to a fault though... wouldn't be shocked if he is suspended for punching an unwilling opponent at some point during the season.

The funnier thing is people think you can punch your way to a cup.

Calgary already tried this and failed miserably.
Bruins x 3
Philly x 2
Isles x 2

So it can happen, but you still need physicality, goals and a way to stop them.

Physicality plays a huge role in a short series.

IMO I think Benoit is going to make the team instead of Timmins so they can run a 21-man roster instead of 20 (assuming no other LTIR injuries in preseason), and many posters will act surprised when that happens.

The less he plays the better we'll be. He's fine as a signing, but it won't be a good sign of he gets significant game play.

That said I think it's very fair game to speculate on Timmins future with Tre. That's a big question mark right now and Tre has gone out of his way to say he wants changes to the D

As far as entertainment goes, I am much more excited this year.

high scoring games and fights here and there, it is more exciting for sure.

I have a prediction we are going to spend a lot of time in the Penalty Box, the conspiracy theories about how the refs are out to get the Leafs will be on overdrive ... mostly because I will be posting them :) ... but we are going to get some bad (box time) with the good (gritty players).

The last time the Leafs won the cup , it was televised in Black and White ... boys we have sucked for a long time...

The Stanley Cup in 1967 was the first year CBC broadcasted the game in colour.
"NBC's coverage of the 1966 Stanley Cup Finals marked the first time that hockey games were broadcast on network television in color. The CBC followed suit the following year."

A lot of those teams (especially PHILLY) played in a VERY different era, though... If the Leafs even thought about trying to play like the mid-70's Philly Flyers, I suspect Bettman would move to have them kicked right out of the league...

I stand corrected, all the highlights I saw from that series were B & W.

I think with Timmins you play him and get value later in the season. He wont fetch much right now but could still be a good dman.

Timmins & Benoit will be the 7 & 8 defenceman. Decent enough.
I dont see any reason they should just chuck Timmins. He may play well this year.

"I have a really physical game," Benoit says. "For me, the most important part is just being physical, being reliable defensively. And if I can bring some offence, good. But I know it's not my main focus. I just want to be hard to play against and not letting the guys come to the net."

with both Klingberg and Timmins hurt, Benoit could start in remaining Pre season games and win a job for Oc.t 11 season opener. I like the element he could bring....more importantly: Trevelling LIKEs the element Benoit could bring!

He really could be the ideal 3rd pairing LHD.

Pair him with a good puck moving RHD and he can make our defenders harder to play against.

Liking what I’m seeing with him, and honestly I would want him out there more than Gio at this point in time.
