Again we have seen this dysfunctional mix for a couple of years now.
We need some serious upgrades still on defence and certainly in net but the team cannot afford if. Instead they have to fill much of the roster with low paid low skilled players

Or maybe it's just a slump. That you necessarily attribute this to some underlying, long-standing dysfunction is a fallacy.
