Mostly good points but I disagree that Dubas did his best. It was him that put them in this cap hell with the Tavares deal. This is all on him.
He is somehow going to have to get rid of at least 1 and maybe 2 of the expensive 4 for this team to become a contender

Yes he overpaid. It all started with the battle for Tavares and continued with the RFAs.

That said, with no cap increases and a very tight market, he tried to build on the cheap, and did fairly well.

The splash should have happened after they lost to the Zamboni driver. The team seemed to lack the killer instinct and needed an identity change. They seemed to address it with a team focus on D which lead to strong, team, two-way hockey.


Seems old habits are tougher to break than imagined. They were dominant the first two games against Winnipeg, so I don't think all is lost.

There's nothing Engvall could do in that play. It happened under matter of second, that does't even give you time to gather your thoughts

I wonder if forcing the penalty if they don’t overturn sways any decision making.

This was a borderline situation I think they could have gone either way on. Sucks that the refs can’t just uphold the goal, they have to uphold the goal AND slap the challenging team with a penalty. I do think that has some small impact on decision making.

You say it’s a fallacy but I disagree. I do not see how you can spend 50% of your cap on 4 of the same type of forwards especially when one is in serious decline and still be able to surround them with quality players at the critical positions
