I donno the NHL is a mans game. That’s just a bigger man gaining position on his way to the net. If Thompson doesn’t go down like a sac of hammers it’s not called. I hear what you’re saying, and the broadcast summed it up, he probably didn’t need to assert himself that much, I just don’t mind him battling on the way to the net like that 1 bit. 9 times out of 10 the defender is knocked off his stride enough to gain that extra step without going down like you’ve been shot

Love the depth of this team. Mikheyev has had a strong camp, but doesn't really wanna be here as he still won't get a top 6 gig. So many guys ready and desperate for a bottom 6 role

Last time we had depth was when we had Kadri, Kapanen on the 3rd line. That's serious depth

You'll be lucky to get anything out of MIka, Semeynov, Kampf(who had 1 goal last year, I don't care how good he is defenisively) and Simmonds who scored 2 goals because the puck bounced of him last year

Yeah I don't mind it at all. It won't get called in the playoffs because nothing does. I just also don't mind it being called because there needs to be more penalties.

It was all coming together, until it didn't

In his defense, it does look like a systemic choice to have the defense play aggressively to create offense. The Leafs give up a ton of odd man rushes against due to aggressive pinches, no matter who's on the ice

Yeah, I think the play style of the D is definitely dictated by the way the Leafs coach them, I suppose they want Sandin doing what Rielly does to see if he can take his job...

If I am Dubas, I offer 8x8 to Rielly right now. We waited years and years to have a solid defense and we finally do, lock in the top 4. Lilly and Sandin aren't replacing him, no one is. Might as well pay 8 now rather than 9 or even 10 after this season

Completely disagree. Many were highly skeptical of both Simmonds and Thornton, and I don't think a single fan was excited for Mr Hobey Baker. I would say we are definitely a step above where we were same time last year.

There is no depth here. Bunch of guys just skating. Depth is when you have players that can contribute. We have players that can skate, they can't contribute for life, that's depth

We get it - you aren't watching them (and have never watched the likes of Kampf and Kase before) but you really want them to be bad so they must be bad.

That's going to depend on how Sandin learns to mitigate risk and when to pick his spots. I think his IQ and shot can be more valuable than Rielly's athletic ability one day

They've been repping Kerfoot as a C in preseason, have they not? Why are people pencling in Kampf as our 3c?

Which I like, we should be rolling 3 scoring lines and keep Kampf in the 4c slot.

Kampf is not a 3rd line player any more than Gauthier was. He doesn't have the minimum offense necessary to justify third line minutes.(right after Kampf scores his 2nd of the pre season). He has better foot speed than the Goat but is not as good offensively, hits less and is not as good on the dot (especially on the pk).

His getting 3rd line minutes with the Hawks coincides with their drop from a 50 win team to a perennial doormat (no he didn't cause the crash but for anyone pointing to his 3rd line minutes there as some kind of a thing). Unless he has some crazy QC numbers I am not sure why they picked him up at all as he seems to be a 6 goal guy with no physical game and they are paying him double what they gave to Gauthier who apparently isn't good enough for the NHL.

Because why exactly? because we got Kampf who had 1 goal last year?
PTO in Gusev ?
Semeyenov who had less points than Barabanov?

Who here really stacks up against our depth from last year?
At least Gally, Joe, Simmonds, Vesey last year were NHLers who scored in this league

this year we got Ho Sang who never had a full season in NHL
Gusev who looks to be too small to do anything, another Petan

Kampf who had 1 goal

We lost Hyman, replaced him with Buntin? who in life has scored 10 goals in NHL?
Hyman at least scored 20+ goals multiple times
