You can tell that he is far more inclined to make riskier decisions for the sake of creating offense. I think he'd be best watching some more Adam Fox footage if he wants to see how a guy with enormous hockey IQ with below average physical tools can contribute on both ends.

Yeah you're right. Adam Fox is a much better comp. No chance he'll ever be *that* good, but if he learns to create offense at an elite rate like Fox while not sacrificing defensively in any way (Fox is also elite defensively) you have the #1 even without the tools of a Rielly. I'm just not convinced Sandin will ever end up more than a #3 and #1PPQB.

Kampf led the Blackhawks last season by starting 67.4% of the time in the defensive zone. Yet he still finished the season with a minus-3 plus/minus rating and with a 47.5 Corsi For percentage (leading all forwards). That’s pretty impressive when you’re spending most of your time in the defensive zone. Touching on some of his other stats, Kampf’s 31 takeaways was tied for second on the team, and his eight giveaways were extremely low. Another thing Kampf is extremely good at is winning faceoffs. He led the team in this department, winning 52.8 % of his draws (while taking the most draws on the team).

It may have been a headscratcher on how a guy with 1 goal got 1.5 a year but if he can provide decent offensive contributions as well, thats gonna be a steal of a contract.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like he's trying to be an Adam Fox type defenseman without the wheels.
In his defense, it does look like a systemic choice to have the defense play aggressively to create offense. The Leafs give up a ton of odd man rushes against due to aggressive pinches, no matter who's on the ice

I like all of Brooks, Ho Sang and Semeyonov. I think only one of them makes it unfortunately
Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase
Mikheyev-Spezza-Simmonds

Honestly you can say whatever about a guy like Simmonds... But he's playing. They value his toughness and leadership (as they should imo). So who there in my lineup sits? Without a trade I just don't see it. I don't see Mikheyev in our top 6 either like he wants to be. So that's the only potential moving piece I see. I love that we've started to build a team of guys that really want to be Leafs

Good buddies. Sometimes tends to translate to the ice when you wanna play for the guy next to you. Love to see it. I think Kerfoot or Mikheyev on their wing is the obvious choice. We have a ton of forward depth this year. Ho-sang is pushing for a spot and there's no spots on forward without a trade. Good issue to have I suppose
Yup I think they’ve played before together in Czech. Also seymonov and Micheyev have played together since they were 6 apparently.

to me it goes like this for our bottom 6:

kerfoot - kampf - Kase
Micheyev - seymonov/brooks - spezza

I want to make room with JHS but I think he will have to start in the Marlies. Needs a comtract IMO though

Kampf-Kase line looking good. Semyonov too. And Kral maybe looks like a player.

I'm pretty sure Dermott is playing on the left side, or at least playing there a lot.
Feel like the D-Pairings have been all over the place. I’ve seen Dermott and Sandin share the ice a lot which would likely mean Dermott is on the right side. Nonetheless, I’ve been really happy with Dermott’s game tonight. Strong on the puck so far and making good reads

They've been repping Kerfoot as a C in preseason, have they not? Why are people pencling in Kampf as our 3c?

Which I like, we should be rolling 3 scoring lines and keep Kampf in the 4c slot.

I want room for Ho-Sang too. And as you can maybe tell from my name, I want the Wayne train in town too.. I think he brings value. Sometimes that's unseen. I'm not blind, I can see if we were running drills for the A team he doesn't stack up to some of the others...but us as Leafs fan should know better than anyone that you can't just skill your way to anything

Resigning Simmonds was an atrocious move by Dubas. Not only is the guy terrible, we have 2-3 young kids that deserve the spot way more then him. Our team is significantly worse now with Simmonds.

Liljegren steals the puck, takes off a few seconds, and then passes it for an easy clear. He reminds me so much of Gards in that he does so many little things unbelievably well that 90% of people don't see. Luckily Liljegren hasn't shown to have the same proficiency of making mistakes in glaring situations like Jake did.
I wonder what Hayes is thinking of him now

I think Simmer’s value is in the room. His play is just not where it needs to be unfortunately. That can obviously change between now and opening night. But he does need a role as well. I agree. Just not an everyday player in my mind. In fact he’s my 13th forward on every lineup I’ve mocked up

2 years nearly league minimum and can fully be buried in the minors with no cap implications is an atrocious move? If he cant cut it he is waived.... no harm whatsoever.

Bad breakout pass to end that play, but he made two nice plays to get the puck out of pressure in the defensive zone. He normally hits those passes.
