One of the best things about Dubas is his vision for how the defense should play, and Liljegren fits that perfectly. He's so good at doing the right things that tilt the ice for his team

Nothing about him stands out first looking at him, but he possesses every quality of what a modern 2-way defenseman should be. Excellent first pass, +4 way mobility, +transition skills, closes gaps effectively, uses his body to separate guys from the puck. The guy looks head and shoulders above Sandin again for me tonight, but it's early.

While I agree that he looks better than Sandin so far I don't think Sandin has played poorly this game. I actually have also liked Kral quite a bit.

Liljegren's skating advantage over Sandin looks pretty big right now. I think Sandin will be the better player some day, but Liljegren should get first crack in the NHL. I'd have Sandin ahead of Dermott though

My issue with Sandin is almost everytime I see him, I think "he's trying to play like Rielly", and then he gets caught over and over because his skating is nowhere close. He needs to watch Brodie and just do everything he does.

Liljegren steals the puck, takes off a few seconds, and then passes it for an easy clear. He reminds me so much of Gards in that he does so many little things unbelievably well that 90% of people don't see. Luckily Liljegren hasn't shown to have the same proficiency of making mistakes in glaring situations like Jake did.

Kampf and kase look so good together
Good buddies. Sometimes tends to translate to the ice when you wanna play for the guy next to you. Love to see it. I think Kerfoot or Mikheyev on their wing is the obvious choice. We have a ton of forward depth this year. Ho-sang is pushing for a spot and there's no spots on forward without a trade. Good issue to have I suppose

You can tell that he is far more inclined to make riskier decisions for the sake of creating offense. I think he'd be best watching some more Adam Fox footage if he wants to see how a guy with enormous hockey IQ with below average physical tools can contribute on both ends.

Really solid period for the B-team leafs. Kampf and Kase are so good together. Loving what I am seeing from Mrazek as well. He looks to be tracking the puck really well. Only negative standout for me has been gusev I think. Guy is just not made for the NHL game

A guy I’ve been surprisingly happy with in both preseason games has been amadio. He will never play a minute for the Leafs likely, but he plays the game well IMO

Ho-sang needs a deal. Even if he starts in the AHL for us. He's a solid talent add that'll be dirt cheap

He's definitely beating Gusev to the punch.

I wonder if Engvall and someone else might end up on waivers? We can sign Ho-Sang to a deal, maybe keep Brooks around or go dumpster diving for another mix and match forward.

Kampf-Kase line looking good. Semyonov too. And Kral maybe looks like a player.

I'm pretty sure Dermott is playing on the left side, or at least playing there a lot.

Can't skate but has obvious skill and smarts. Young too. He's kinda like a bit bigger version of Brooks.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like he's trying to be an Adam Fox type defenseman without the wheels.
