I'm of the opinion that signing Tavares to 7 years @ $11 million AAV, wasn't the greatest of moves. Not that signing Tavares was a bad move, but that's a high cap hit, and all it does is inflate Matthews and Marner contracts. Zero chance that Matthews was going to take less money than Tavares, and I'd be shocked if Marner now takes less than $10 million. I think without the Tavares deal, Matthews could have signed for 11 max, and Marner maybe 9 - all speculative of course, and we'll never really know. Just my 2 cents.
