And how was their defense in round 1?

Average to good depending on the game. They still let Habs get in behind them quite a bit, multiple breakaways etc.

Keep in mind that the Leafs were playing Montreal, not an offensive juggernaut. Similar to how they somehow got lit up at times by noted offensive dynamo Columbus Blue Jackets the year prior in the qualification round.

Again, I literally do not care about whichever stats you put up here. If you try to tell me the Leafs and the Lightning defense is comparable and it tells me everything I need to know in your understanding of the game. You can find a spread sheet somewhere, great job.

I understand you will refuse to look at actual facts. That's on you though.

Playoffs vs MTL, 5v5:

TBL: 1.37ga/60, 1.78xga/60, 23.9sca/60, 26.3sa/60, 49.1ca/60
TOR: 1.60ga/60, 1.76xga/60, 22.8sca/60, 27.2sa/60, 51.1ca/60

Predictable Zeke, cannot have a discussion without advanced stats / charts, do you not know what you're seeing on the ice?

Watch some games this season, other teams included and get back to me.

OK lets leave out the stats then.

The Leafs were an excellent defensive team this year, regular season and playoffs, and anyone who understands hockey could seee it.

The Leafs were a big fish in a small pond, the Canadian division that never faced other elite competition in the regular season :)

They played competent defense but not excellent in the playoffs but were largely let down by their high priced talent and an inferior opponent beat them.

That's my view on 20-21 - everyone is entitled to their opinion but I am not investing in the mirage that was the Canadian division.

Now that we're moving into the next season;

Mrazek is streaky AF but the highs should be much better than Andersen's consistent mediocrity this upcoming season.
They will miss Bogosian
Kase likely to miss a chunk of time during the season.
LW seems like they're hoping some of them work out.

They probably have 1-2 trades to make still.

There you go, pure opinion, no stats.

Wrong. The Leafs were excellent defensively and anyone who watched could see it.

How many Norris and Conn Smythe winning Dman do the Leafs have on their defense? :wg:

He also thought they’d sweep to the final four. Safe to say when he goes to opinion he’s better off staying with the charts.

The kind of guy you'd go to the bar with to watch the game and he'd need to go to Natural stat trick on his phone to tell you what he thinks of the game you're watching live.:laugh:

Anyone that's watching the game at a bar with friends lending any kind of in depth opinion beyond anything more than a play or two in isolation or the raw entertainment value is full of shit.

The Leafs have some expected Norris trophy's for?? That's like the same thing right?

Our Leafs defense got outplayed by Montreal our 1st round opponent as Weber, Petry, Chiarot and Edmundson was to much for Leafs forwards and defense to handle. I'm using the results and the eye test to confirm this. They held our Rocket Richard trophy winner to 1 goal, and our other 1st team all-start to 4 assists in the series and put a wall up around Price, and won the series as a result.

Montreal's defense even carried them all the way to the SCF. Debating if Leafs defense is even as good as Montreal's was, would take some heavy lifting based on team results and playoff advancement based on their performance. I watched Sandin get beaten on multiple occasions and numerous mistakes and Dermott give-aways alone that lead to Montreal goals and wins in the series.

Without Bogosian (with Stanley Cup experience) and anchoring the Leafs bottom pair last year. I think our Leafs defense as of today is weaker then the one we iced for the playoffs, as last years couldn't hold up under pressure against he 18th ranked and lowest ranked team that qualified for the the playoffs.

If any one of Leafs big 3 of Rielly, Muzzin or Brodie miss substantial time our defense will be in serious trouble if Holl, Sandin, Dermott and Liljegren are asked to carry a significant load. IMO

Almost no teams in the league have talent as good as Sandin/Liljegren, with AHL performance as good as Sandin/Liljegren, as their #6/7 dmen.

And as an infamous hfleafs poster always says: "Play the Kids!!"

I saw what Montreal did, they mobbed the living hell out of Matthews and were willing to let Hyman or Marner try to beat Price and if it happens so be it but Matthews could beat Price. Things might even look differently if one of those 3-4 posts Matthews hit is a goal instead, he still got his chances, hell of a player. Matthews threw quite a few hits and good face off guy in the series.

Sandin just wasn't ready yet but maybe this year he can take a step forward. Hoping to see Liljegren get a legit chance to get on the team this year, always felt Muzzin would be the right guy to bring him along.

Bogosian solidified the bottom pairing for us in a way I haven't seen in like a decade, just no stress about them getting pummeled. We're screwed if Muzzin goes down because he's 1.5 men of the 2 man pairing. Holl is absolute ass without Muzzin.
