Leafs powerplay simply unacceptable given the amount of money on it

They just are not good passers... as a group.

They do not pass precicely and hold onto the puck too long.

That slows everything down. Makes it pretty easy to defend.

They can run this group out there until time ends and that is not going to change.

They need to change the mix of the PP groups imo.

That being said, they could go 4 for 4 tomorrow... but then will go 2 for 26 after that lol

Except the biggest difference and issue is PP2. Looking at PP1 expenditure but combined results is pretty misleading and worthless.

The question is, 5 forwards, or 4... I'd say Knies should be net front causing havoc... whether that puts JT in the bumper, and Marner skating around or... a D???

We move the puck too slow, to predictable... get the puck moving more, more skating, harder to predict, and Knies needs to be that net front beast, requiring a D man to cover him, and then a 4 on 3 with the rest of the guys. Yes, we look for the perfect shot too much, but with a better, more aggressive net front, you don't always need that perfect shot.

Knies is the guy who can make a big difference here.. teach him to be the net front guy... guy is big and strong... and has a decent set of hands.

At the risk of sounding like typical Marner bashing I'm not sure he needs to be on the first unit all.

Matty and Willy need to be on the side walls and resemble an Ovi/Kuch combination - thats our brass tacks discriminator. At the top we need a shot threat, even if the options aren't great. He ain't playing net front and bumper just doesn't seem like a good spot for him to do his thing.

We need more zip and faster play, no taking time looking for creative magic, to leverage the man advantage. I suspect Marner has the skills to adjust to that but when is it going to happen, and where?

Oftentimes the pass to Matthews and Nylander is not where they can one-time a shot. Then they have to handle the puck and set it up again which wastes valuable time.

Last was perfect example of Matthews teeing up for Marner and he was able to get away a couple of shots ( no one in front though) but Marner couldn’t tee up Mathews

Happy to hear your constructive thoughts on how to best utilize him to improve. I didn't learn anything from your post unfortunately.

I'm sure he would help prop up that second unit if he was there, your primary concern, with a different collection of players.

Our 1st unit hasn't been weak. Our 2nd unit has just been horrific. Perhaps we will need Marner to prop up the 2nd unit too, but that doesn't mean removing one of the best PP players in the league from our main unit. That's not going to help anything. Not sure what the Islanders have to do with anything, but the Islander's PP got worse when Tavares left, and their team as a whole reverting to their level a couple years prior had nothing to do with Tavares leaving.

I don't want to hear a single person try and blame Savard before they do that. How many years now with how many different coaches, strategies, etc and the PP has been unacceptably awful every year.

The PP lost them their series last year when they went 4%. What have they shown to suggest the PP won't be a detriment in any playoff series again this year?

The thing that really is unacceptable is we have a Hart and Rocket winner, one of the best players and passers in the league, a guy who recently was top 3 in the NHL in goals, and other star talent and yet they can't even consistently gain the zone nevermind generate chances.

Prime JVR is vastly superior to Knies as a net front presence.

Bozak/Kadri were really good at knowing when to shoot/pass, also got some decent offense in a bumper spot.
