If one ignores history, history will repeat itself……..
Ignoring history is not even what's happening here, nor is it being suggested, so I'm not sure what the point is.
A poster is suggesting that they are mad we didn't draft Carter Hart nearly a decade ago, and are mad that we haven't prioritized drafting goalies, in particular in the first rounds.
But, we have learned from the past, and drafted six goalies in the last eight years. Bottom line, you don't draft goalies in the back half of the first round. Statistically it's a losing proposition. Second and third rounds aren't bad, Fourth is ok, fifth and sixth not so great, and seventh is a pretty good spot to select a goalie, compared to other positions.
We haven't had picks in the top 14, the rest of the first round would be a waste, and then 5 of our 6 picks have been in ranges where it makes good sense to draft a goalie. The one pick in the not so great area is Peksa.
The area of history that is being ignore the most here, is that goalies take a long time to develop, and we've got four that have been developing quite well so far. On top of drafting, we've gone the College FA route, and signed a former 3rd rounder, who up until this year was progressing pretty well in Petruzelli. He's having an off year for sure, but that doesn't mean we write him off completely either. He's only 24, and just getting to that goalie development sweet spot.
So that's seven goalie prospects brought into the system in the last eight years... so we've learned... bring a bunch in, they are a bit like lottery picks, have patience with them, and develop them. At some point, one or two of these guys will be our NHL goalies.... Woll is very good, if he can stay injury free, so there is NHL now hope there.
But this certainly isn't a case of not learning from history, in fact the exact opposite argument is being made.
