Title says it; Leafs need a top 4 dman, preferably a top pair.

Not available - Matthews, Marner, Rielly.

Who can we get?

1 game into the season, don't think you'll find many for sale.

I don't think Trouba wants to be in Canada.

Anaheim should hold on to Lindholm for dear life.

You could address it in the off-season and sign Alzner or Shattenkirk if they get there.

Otherwise it'll be tough to do.

You could hope that Benning gets stupid and puts Tanev up for sale in which case i'd make a STRONG offer.

Anaheim's your best trading partner for D right now. Fowler, Despres, Theodore, Montour are all likely available for the right price.

Despres can be had for relatively cheap due to his role in the ducks cap situation (under used for his salary). He's more of a #4/5 with some upside, but he can play both sides and he's pretty big/physical. He'd definitely fill a need on the leafs blueline.

Ducks have no urgency to move him unless its the LW they need. They'll ask for JVR straight up.

Well alrighty then...lets get it done.

And they may not need to move Fowler specifically as far as urgency, but if they want to sign Lindholm, somethings gotta give.

JVR for Fowler makes some sense. If Toronto would take on some additional cap so the Ducks can sign Lindholm, I think it's about as fair as it gets.

Ducks get a top LW for the next couple seasons to try and go after a Cup. Leafs get a D-man you can play against a team's best players.

Pot needs to be sweetened quite a bit

JVR for Fowler is fair (in a nut shell) - JVR at 50% for Fowler is robbery for Anaheim. JVR at 50% for Fowler and Stoner is just...wow.

Needs something real special attached here to make this deal appealing from a Toronto perspective.

It's one or the other. Retained salary or you taking on a contract. Definitely not both.

Fowler isn't the answer long term. Especially not for JVR, nor adding anything on top of him.

If we don't get Trouba (or somehow Lindholm) then we shouldn't get anyone. Marincin/Carrick is fine as our 4D, and we have Zaitsev, Gardiner and Rielly as our top 3D.

And I wouldn't a whole lot on top of Gardiner besides some good prospects in order to get Trouba either.

Even if it is one of them, the value is still slanted in Anaheim's favor getting JVR at 50% for Fowler or unloading Stoner+Fowler for JVR at full price.
