Weekes deleted this tweet. Wonder if he got fed false info.

5M AAV seems way to high. Friedman said yesterday he was hearing more around 4M AAV.

It's a "reply" so it doesn't show up on the normal page

I can still see it

People dumping on a non confirmed deal. I also love the fact 2 months ago Tanev was all that and Dallas doomed without him

Leafs about to sign him he’s instant garbage. Never change folks…

For a guy who blocks shots like nobodys business, Tanev has surprisingly been able to stay relatively healthy the past 4-5 seasons. Dallas will really miss him. Tanev did say that he wants to play in Canada long term so makes sense he's back north of the border.
I'm surprised he's been that healthy for the Flames the last 4 years. Its just a Canuck thing he kept on getting hurt.

It just smells circumventing the cap. Just like Letang did. Treliving will let the NHL figure that out though. Let’s be honest, what Detroit just did is circumventing too. They could’ve paid Kane the guaranteed money. They got other plans up their sleeve though.

My guess is, this is something that gets brought up in 3 years let’s say. Whenever he calls it quits. If he plays only 1-2 years, they’ll clip the Leafs for it. If he plays 4, probably nothing. Just like Letang. The league will keep an eye on it.

There are cup contenders that would find 5M for Tanev on a 1 or 2 year deal. Toronto must be giving him enough term to forgo that option.

Toronto has a charter plane ready for flights to Robidas Island when needed, so if term is long it ain't that big a deal as Tanev will just develop a career ending injury when the time comes.

You’re purposely misinterpreting things. RIGHT NOW Tanev is awesome. Like really really good. But the guy purposely blocks shots with his face. Which is awesome, guys a warrior. But he turns 35 in December.

Forget the reckless abandon he plays with, 35 is almost over the hill. His game will most likely fall off a cliff in the next year or two and the Leafs are about to commit to 4+ years with him. At age 39 he’s gonna be held together with super glue and duct tape

It's an LTIRetired contract. Circumventing the cap like plenty of teams do. If the Leafs suck as much as people around here say they do, what difference does it make?

Gotta be the funniest edit I've ever seen. Not even a victim complex, we know we suck, and the posters here make sure we know it. We're self aware. A Tanev LTIR contract shouldn't affect anything in the grand scheme.

"We'll just LTIR him!" surely the makings of a good contract then
sounds like a great deal Tre

Also good luck getting him to sit out games. The last four years I watched him in cycles of injury. Very effective when healthy, but there were plenty of stretches where he could barely move and would still be out blocking shots with his teeth. The Leafs needed this player when he still had some tread on the tires, giving him a term contract now is going to poorly.

The salary cap is such a joke.

This contract will come in between 4.5-5.5M for atleast 6 years, but really its a 3 year contract that will end with Tanev getting hurt & the Leafs banishing him to 'Robidas-Island' when they don't think he's good enough to help them win anymore.

You can see this coming from 200 miles away. But the league will approve it & there will be 0 consequences.

When you combine this with the shenanigans Vegas gets away with every year, whats the point of even having a hard cap when the league allows most teams to get away with it, and only doles out punishments selectively.
