There are cup contenders that would find 5M for Tanev on a 1 or 2 year deal. Toronto must be giving him enough term to forgo that option.

And yet teams have to deal with the Nurse and Vlasic-type contracts with no way of getting out of them aside from gutting their future or hoping they improve. Sometimes you need the loopholes to allow teams to do well without sacrificing what a player can earn on an open market.

Nurse is in his prime, that was just a bad judgement of his ability.

If Vlasic was on a team like Toronto, Vegas, Tampa, exc he might already be on LTIR. But San Jose has needed to get to the floor
