The term probably won't matter cause he'll be LTIR'd for the last couple of years of it. But if he's already toast, it'll be a terrible deal.

If it waa a 35+ contract, itd be awful to make it long term.

Because Brad Treliving is an idiot that has a history of giving out terrible deals to Tanev type of players.

Yeah sorry you’ll have to do better than that. He knows our cap situation and Pridham does our management and a lot of our negotiations

$5M WTF! That is crazy. That is more than he is making on his current contract. How the heck is he getting a raise at 34 yo.

He should be around $3M AAV.

The Leafs window is short, so Treliving doesn't care about years 4, 5 or 6 (if it goes that long).

For guys like him, it's a sellers market. He's what the Leafs need and they weren't getting anyone else so give him term or he goes elsewhere to get it.

If this is a 2 year deal, it's great.

If it's a 3 year deal, it's good to ok.

If it's a 4 year deal, it's maybe not the best, but tolerable.

Anything beyond that I suspect is soemthing they're going to regret.... and honestly, wouldn't make sense. If you're going to lock him up to a deal that takes him to 38-39, why not lock him up to 41 with some backdiving / LTIR years??

That being said assuming this comes to fruition... will be interesting to see what the Leafs do with the $8m in space remaining.
