JT's greatest strength is only really apparent when the game has been isolated into a half court game of ball hockey. He basically wants to be grinding around below the hash marks using his hands to create little separation moments, or whipping the puck like a tennis ball top corner, deflecting, etc.
The guy's game is completely antithetical to Nylander's, whose 100% about flow, whether that's blowing the zone early for a rush opportunity, cycling around the perimeter looking for openings or attacking with speed and then sniping.
When you put both out there it doesn't enhance either player and their defensive weaknesses come through. It's a poorly constructed left over 2nd line.
I hope they can split them up when ROR comes back. Put a ROR JT thing together as your retro night line and let them grind away and create something else for Nylander on a 2B unit. Or even put him with Marner and Matthews. I just hate seeing the two together.
