I think that's always a good idea to move away for a bit and experience the world .. It really rounds you out as a person ... I always tell people it moving away from Uni and moving to Calgary by myself have given me tons of perspective on life and really helped me figure things out

You then start seeing your parents as people more than anything else and while they'll always (and they always will) be telling you things/giving advice you'll at least have more patience and understanding as to where they're coming from but also know how they are and that they mean well

Before you go back to school you should take a few months and travel IMO .. Or go to a school a fair distance away

Correct.

Oh trust me I know how it is to lose family members and parents. But anyways when I was living in res for school it was the best experience of my life. One reason why? I was away from home.

Living in res also takes away any responsibilities. You have to do literally nothing and you will survive. So that probably contributed as well

Actually I cooked food there and did my laundry so not completely.

No yeah, move away, but keep in constant contact, they are the best support when times get tough

My dad was super strict when I was younger and always said "you'll thank me later" and now that I'm a grown man, I really do. It taught me a lot about life and how to handle things and what it takes to support not only yourself but a family.

+1. Don't think you can fully appreciate this until you start paying your own rent and bills and have real adult responsibilities.

Also if your parents still cook you dinner and don't make you pay rent the least you can do is spend 20 minutes eating dinner with them to show some appreciation.

 I make most of my meals, also I like how you guys think I eat so much pizza it's not even that often. I was contemplating taking a culinary program or something and become a chef or something. Although not sure now :dunno:

So this is why you're so hard on me.

Thanks, Hurtski.

Yeah that's the thing with me, growing up I barely saw my dad, and mom died when I was little. Pretty much only saw him on the weekends because of him working so much so he never really had the chance to punish me if I did something bad and be hard on me so I would always be sent to my room by my step-mom and I would do it again

My family doesn't usually eat together either. Everyone's so busy their schedules just don't work together. If one person is at home, the other is at work, and another is at school  Me and my mom are usually the ones always at home and we usually eat together.

I cherish the times the whole family is together, eating dinner, especially when my parents stop lecturing and talking serious. The best times we have are when we just have light conversation, reminisce about old times, watch home videos or the leafs game together and just have fun. Doesn't happen a lot, but that makes it more special when it does.

That's also why I don't like eating with them for dinner. Since I don't see them a lot and don't talk to them much they just keep lecturing me during dinner nonstop and I just want to eat so I always snap at my step-mom lol. They just try to get everything off their mind at once and its like I just want to eat..
