soderstrom is a first round pick. He’s pretty damn good

Okay.

My point was they weren't playing an AHL team, perhaps just a defense group that isn't NHL proven.

I didn't watch the game, but it doesn't seem like the defense was that good, permitting 46 shots on net.

Dzingel has scored 186 goals in 389 games.

A hot goaltender ...

This doesn't seem like a game you worry about.

Cliff notes for anyone who can't be bothered to read this entire thread:

Honestly maybe WC1 would be better than 3rd in this division anyway. Rather go through the metro than the Atlantic. Both are tough though.

Edit: Damn forgot Carolina was in that division too. The East is just rough this year.

some of the takes I am reading in here are just so ridiculous IMO.

We dominated that game start to finish. Easily our most dominating effort of the year. We had our season high xGF by the end of the 2nd period.

Velmelka stood on his head in a fashion that even we as Leaf fans have not seen in a very long time.

We had a 74% deserve to win-o-meter as per moneypuck.com

68.75 HDCF%
22 HDCF......22

There are no stats to back this claim, but if I were to just guess the Leafs possessed the puck for probably 75% of the night.

It is a complete shame to walk away with nothing, and ultimately it just doesn't feel fair. But there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about. That was a great effort.

On the list of embarrassing losses, this one doesn't even register. I've been more upset over Leaf wins.

some on hear need to give their heads a shake. Mrazek did not lose us the game. And even as bad as Dermott was, he did not lose us that game. Velmelka stole that game. End of story

We are going to get the piss beaten out of us in the playoffs by the likes of the Tampa, Washington, Florida or Boston. The Panthers are just a better version of the Leafs, in almost every way. Tampa knows how to win. Period. Both Boston and Washington will out structure Toronto and win the compete battle.

i don't get why people keep saying this. What the hell has Florida proven? They haven't won a first round match up in forever as well. All these teams have lost to a shitty team earlier this year. Tampa got SLAPPED by Buffalo no? It's unrealistic to expect that they will win every night. They are going to lose to crappy teams over an 82 game season. Boston I believe we can beat, we've beat washington before. The only team to worry about is Tampa. All those American teams have had an advantage this year, full buildings, not a whole lot of interruptions to their schedule. I do believe this year Toronto will make it past the first round.

Coyotes fan coming in peace here. I was at the game. The Leafs had amazing puck possession, best I've seen this year. They got beat by a goalie performance for the ages. There were so many high quality shots, but Veggie absolutely stood on his head. No team can beat that kind of goalie performance. Perhaps the best I've seen in my 30 years watching hockey. You have a stellar team, but no team is invincible.

How has Galchenyuk been for you guys?

Anyone watching Tavares should be worried.
His skating is terrible but his inability to move the puck is really worrisome.
That contract is a boondoggle.

Yea, honestly his skating doesn't bother me at all. he can get to where he needs to be in plenty of time.

But you nailed it iwth the turnovers. It's like he goes for stretches where he has 0 hockey IQ. It is bizarre.

My favourite this week was the no look backhand fluff across the ice at his own blueline... I think that was vs Vegas. Like dood, fck off.

Leaf fans don't be too down.

You outplayed them and sometimes that isn't enough big reason why the playoffs is 7 games because hockey is a game of Bounces sometimes.

Big fan of Matthews game and I wouldn't be shocked to see a goal from him against the Blues.

As a life long Leaf fan, we have witnessed some all world tending against us during this current core group era.

whether its Rittich, Georgiev, Merzlikins, Korpisalo, Price or now Velmelka, it just seems to feel like this shit only happens against us. Which is just not the case.

I will say that was one of the most impressive 60 minute displays of goaltending I think I've ever seen TBH. I am usually upset with these type of losses, but I genuinely don't understand how any Leaf fan who actually watched the game could shit on our guys after that performance. It was not even close from opening puck drop to final buzzer.

I said it earlier in this thread, I had no clue who Velmelka was before the game began, I do now. There is some real potential there IMO. His ability to track the play last night was elite. He was just so dialed in. He's gotta feel really good about what he accomplished. The yotes really deserved to get thumped in that game, and he managed to steal them 2pts. I'm sure this is a moment he won't forget for a very long time. I would not be surprised to see this kid around in the NHL for a while. He's got the right frame, ability to track the play, and athleticism to be a solid NHL tendy. I guess it will all just come down to if he can play with consistency. Obviously a hard thing to do in AZ right now. I will definitely be keeping my eye on him though. That's for sure

Super Saiyan Vegeta just whooped our ass

Fell asleep after the first, I hate 10pm starts. More like Krillin just whooped our ass, that was like an AHL/OHL roster. Didn't catch the 2nd or 3rd but what the f*** Mrazek.

EDIT: Realized it was a play off the tendys name lmfao

Only reason I'm awake and watched this shit was cuz I was drinking beers and tracking some music....
Btw anyone here into punkrock and can play 190+bpm?!
Probably not, thought I'd ask.
Mrazek sucks. His stick sucks.
But whatever, it is what it is move on and party hard!
PM sent!

This road trip was going to be a good measuring stick for the Leafs to see where they were in terms of competitiveness..

They've earned 3 of a possible 6 points, just not in terms of [expected results] based on who carried the play and dominated the shot clock and which were bailed out by the goalie.

The results didn't justify the play in any of the 3 games.

Leafs deserved an eazy win against Arizona, and a point against Vegas despite being outplayed, and a loss to Colorado who put up nearly 50 shots but needed OT to win.

Even if you auto-correct the outcomes its the same 3 of a possible 6 points when grading Leafs play and performance to determine deserved wins and losses.

That's .500 hockey either way [1-1-1 record], as the NHL has a way of balancing these earned/deserved wins things out as expected results become actual results.
