Carey Price has managed to have a SV% of .910 once over the course of the last four years.

Montreal finished 18th in a 31 team league, in the weakest division and would have been on the outside looking in under normal circumstances. They ranked a relatively poor 18th in the NHL this Season in goals against average.

Tell me more about the Habs elite goaltending and defense, since you're clearly so knowledgeable.

Did you watch the game tonight?

I don't remember Babs losing to a zamoni driver, being shut out twice at home ice against columbus or his pp really sucking

He is who he is. Garbage coach and arrogant but better than Keefe so far
ye cuz he won a bunch of playoff series with us right? oh wait...nm.
we are 1 game into the playoffs with the 1st real sheldon keefe team.

I liked Folingo Campbell and Nylander this game.

And I think Matthews and Marner are going to eviscerate the Habs next game regardless on their own

They had plenty of puck in this one but struggled to make much of it, Marner especially looked a tick slow in his decisionmaking

We need more than that though, we need our special teams to come through and a contribution from the bottom 6, especially with the 2nd line banged up

Habs fan checking in. Obviously great win for us, but we’re not gonna stop the leafs offense for long. So many dangerous players. I feel like we have to play perfect to win the series and the leafs can play medicore and still win. I’m really glad to hear Johnny’s tests were clear. I hope he makes a full recovery quickly. That was one of the scariest things I’ve seen in hockey. I can’t imagine what his family thought watching that.

I'm all for possession style hockey but you need to be doing something with that possession. Running down the clock turning the game into a coin flip is exactly what teams like Montreal want. Need a lot more urgency with the puck even if means turning it over more often.
We didn't have nearly as much possession as we usually do tonight. We were far too eager to give up the puck and try to chase things down

I don't know which forward is coming out but I guarantee Engvall Gally and Dermott are in next game.

If Montreal's clicking on the PP were morning this game. This wasn't Montreal's best, but it was a game they dictated the pace of.

If we continue to play low event games like tonight we're not looking good down a big player in Tavares.

If this is them dictating the pace, then it is not going to look good for them when/if we dictate the pace. We outplayed them, and it is not like our PP was clicking either. Our PP clicking is significantly more dangerous than theirs.

Another thing, not sure why we are floating writers into the crest and glove when a dirty rebound goal counts just as many as one that goes bard down top Ched.

Rebound how we scored, but sure let's take muffin shots like the ones thornton loves to do.

To me Matthews looked like a man possessed. Just. A matter of time until he does what need stonshppen.

Don't disagree about the bottom six though

Fk what s tough game. They werent winning this from
Jt injury on. Mentally ur not there. Just look at
The coach. Sad

hope hes ok

Our PP hasnt clicked for 2 months.

And you're absolutely right if we can dictate the pace were laughing. But we didn't tonight and it turned into a coin flip, which is basically how they can win the series.

The hits in the game were Montreal 55 and the Leafs 27.

I thought the physicality toned down after the Tavares injury as it took a lot of bite out of the game due to that unfortunate incident.

Something to keep an eye on going forward. Both Nylander and Marner took delay of game of penalties tonight due to the impending threat of being hit.

Team needs to step it up in Game 2, and show some god dam balls and heart for Tavares sake. Marner needs to up his game in the playoffs no more excuses, his play hasn't been good enough come playoff time. Keefe needs to put his respect for Jumbo aside and start making the right decisions. Jumbo cannot be on the first powerplay ever, never mind in a 1-1 hockey game in the playoffs. His play in general this year has been pretty trash. In saying that, I think either Joe or Simmonds needs to be healthy scratch, our 4th line is far to slow and gives us nothing, Spezza cannot be the 4C, fine with him on the wing but not as C.

Hyman - 34 - Marner
Foligno - Kerfoot - Nylander
Chucky - Engvall - Mikahev
Spezza - Nash - Simmonds/Joe/Brooks.

In the past 4 seasons, Price's playoff SV% has been considerably higher than his regular season SV%.

He shows up in the post-season.

People laughing at his "demise" heading into a playoff series, were foolish; you don't even need to go back too far to the last time he stole a series - the bubble against Pitt wasn't that long ago

Players like Nash are being phased out. There's a reason why Columbus isn't in the platoffs, they have too mnay Nash types of players
He's garbage

We took on other teams garbage, team hasn't wasn't going anywhere

We could've had scorers like Palmeri / Hall / Bennett.

But, that dumbass dubas went with Foligno. And he paid like hell for him too.
Hall/Palmeri/Bennett were all the same price and cheaper than foligno.

Foligno does nothing for our team other than PK.

All these "statistic gurus" like Dubas are BS.
What has Dubas done for the team? He was handed the team before he got promoted.

He got fleeced for Kadri.
Fleeced for Marner contract.
Fleeced for Foligno.

How many years of this team no showing in the playoffs is it going to take before some of you wake up and start thinking

"Hey maybe a lot of this is self inflicted"

Because it grew tiring hearing the same "We ran into a hot goalie, good defense" a long, long time and now the statistics aren't even supporting the claims.

Montreal is a below average to bad Hockey team, the statistics show it, and the eye test shows it.

The clip of Dubas running downstairs while on the phone in a panic after the JT injury has been doing the rounds tonight - am sure he was on the phone with JT's family; we've heard him do that in the past.

Thanks for the comment, and well done on the game 1 victory. The template is there on how to beat the Leafs - play stingy like CBJ did, and get hot goaltending which Price can provide.

This isn't as lopsided a series as many are claiming it to be.

Good luck the rest of the way. Hoping this thing is over before fans in game6

Galchenyuk-Matthews-Marner
Foligno-Nylander-Hyman
Kerfoot-Nash-Mikheyev
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds

You can still comfortably roll 4 lines against them.

in reality, the dump and chase style of game does not suit us at all. we dont have the right players outside of hyman that can get possession in the zone that way and price might be the best stick handling goalie in the nhl. we are just giving possession up most of the time. we need to get back to playing our style and come and them with speed in waves.

Say what you want about his playoff numbers (they are good) but the sample size of late is extremely slim. Just 16 GP in the last 5 years

“Obviously great win for us” teehee

Now can you look up who on that team is potting goals or scoing majority of the points and then compare that to teh Leafs and think whether Leafs are "keeping up"

Tampa Bay (3 GP)

Kucherov: 4 points
Hedman: 3 points
Point: 3 points
Stamkos: 2 points

Florida (3 GP)
Huberdeau: 7 points
Barkov: 4 points

New York (3 GP)
Palmieri: 2 points
Barzal: 0 points

Pittsburgh (3 GP)
Crosby: 1 point
Malkin: 2 points (2 GP)
Letang: 3 points

Carolina (2 GP)
Svechnikov: 3 points
Teravainen: 1 points
Aho: 2 points

Colorado 2 (GP)
Landeskog: 5 points
Mackinnon: 7 points
Rantanen: 4 points
Makar: 2 points

I'd say the vast majority of the stars on those teams are leading the way. Teams like Tampa Bay, Florida and Colorado have their guys producing like crazy!

Tavares is now out, but Auston, Mitch, Willy and company have no excuse not to keep up!
