We outshot them but we didn't outplay them. The intensity wasn't good enough and the loss is deserved.
Hope it's a wake up call for the team that talent isn't enough. Murray wasn't the reason we lost tonight.

I’m a big Nylander fan, unlike some here, but I thought he was awful tonight as well. For all the time he skated around with the puck tonight, he didn’t make pretty much any plays.
This team doesn’t deserve to get the benefit of the doubt early in the season. Especially after losing in the 1st round as many years in a row as they have.

Yep, all three should go after this embarrassment. This Leafs team just lost to a team that didn't win a single pre-season game, and is expected to be a bottom feeder. How does this Habs defense look much better than our Leafs!!!

Matthews was nowhere to be seen. The defense was horrendous. We had no flow to our attack.
We played a broken Montreal team icing what is likely the absolute worst D in the league. We are supposed to be the top forward group in the league? Fat chance.
This team needs to sort itself out quickly. Playoffs aren’t a lock when you can’t get yourself hyped to take advantage of a matchup like this.

Most of those folks that say our defence is top of the league also are stats junkies. They dont have a clue. They’re almost as lost as Dubas. It’s still crazy early so there is time for a miracle.

That might be the worst game I’ve ever seen Matthews play, passing up shots and not anywhere close to in position to let it rip.
Jackie would have saved goals 2 and 4.
Willy and JT looked great, JT has some jump and Willy went to the hard areas. Malgin also looked good, possibly makes Kerfoot redundant.

I just don’t understand why they are taking any risks at the end of the game there. Just lock it down, take the point and try to win it in OT. Why the duck are they giving up a 2 on 1?

The worst part about that sequence is it was the sum of all my offseason fears. Muzzin not adequately replaced and we ended up holding onto him. Holl relied on too heavily because of his play type. Murray below average. Murray was actually okay for most of the game, but he's a guy you want to protect and not have to make stand on his head.
They had 115 points last year after a mediocre start and lost no one of significance.
