Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose in OT 4-3

Yeah no doubt Holl is lost on that play

No idea why he didn't begin to pack up and was in so deep

Justin Holl does what he wants it appears. He's an RHD so he'll get another 2.5-3M contract even though he's a avg bottom pairing guy who's being played like a top 4D

Marner hopefully is more aware next time of both the opposition and who he's on tbe ice with. Holl will make the same decision again, he's not going to change

did you expect deep playoffs runs right after we finished dead last ?

i know i was pleasantly shocked we were even competing for a playoff spot never mind making it after finishing dead last the season prior

if he was on the blue line it wouldn't have been so bad but the stupid f*** was skating deep and was at the top of the circle when the puck turned over

i have no idea how our D are coached and why he thought he should leave the blue line when the puck is on the far boards

The season after Washington, yes, though I may have been a wild-eyed optimist. And even in 16-17 Lou traded a 2nd for Boyle, so he probably thought we could win a round.

so basically you expected us to go deep in Lou's 2nd playoff season but only after the team surprised us by even making the playoffs the season prior and i like the Boyle deal , we hadn't made the playoffs in a full season in what seemed forever and he filled a need and played well

i don't think your expectations were unreal but on the flip side they're a bit harsh to crap on a GM who brought the team from dead last to the playoffs in one season
 
Let’s play the what if game if Lou is still GM with the Leafs.
Pretty sure JT would still sign with the Leafs and let’s say it is 11mil too.
Think Leo will be resign that summer too with a lower cap deal than the ones he signed with the Islanders but a year longer.
Willie if he won’t sign for 6mil will most likely be ship out for picks.
Sparks won’t be the backup and will lose him through waivers and there will be many pages of why keep McBackup and not Sparks until Sparks is back in the AHL by Xmas.
Either two of Leivo, AJ and Kap won’t be getting opportunity to play due to Leo being on the team and Willie being on the team from the start. Most likely Kap will be playing ahead of the other two. As I think Willie will sign a bridge deal to stay with the team.
Muzzin trade most likely would not happen but am sure Lou will again use a 2nd rounder to get a 4C for the playoffs.
Lou will sign AM to his current deal except it will be for 6-7 yrs instead of 5 years.
MM will sign a bridge deal or a Drai’s deal before the playoffs.
Still think they will lose to the Bruins in the playoffs.
He will resign Hainsey for one more season in the off season.
Kap will sign a deal similar to Brown’s current deal.
Will most likely trade for a Dman at the draft with AJ, Leivo and that year 1st.
Won’t resign Jake.
Don’t need to force trade Marleau as Willie and MM deals are less than what Dubas gave out. Kap is also on a lower cap deal.
So no Kadri trade.
Babs would stay and even if he is gone, the new coach won’t be Keefe.
Most likely would best BJs and lose to TB.
The whole summer will be Leafs made it past the 1st round Vs playins is not the 1st round of playoffs.
Won’t resign Marleau and Hainsey. Will use that money to chase Pietra. Will also trade Kap for cap reason.
Will not have a relax dress code rule.
Will sign Jumbo, Perry, Simmonds for 1 yr deal to play on the 4th line.
Be King of the North and actually beat everyone including the Avs to reach the Finals and for the second year in a row lose to TB.
Jumbo’s gone, Spezza stayed. Hyman resigned.
Leo also retired. Perry and Simmonds resigned.
Bunting signed, Kampf also signed.
Then they win the Cup.

Just want to take a break from Leafs reality, lol.

Those islanders have the exact same number of points as we do in less games this year.

Those islanders have won 5 series in the last 4 years. They've made the semi finals twice.

Pretty crazy that the islanders had 2 "miracle runs" when dubas can't even have a miracle series.

That's with Lou taking over the 22nd ranked team that had just finished with 80 points.

So, to sumarize, dubas inherited a 105 point team and has zero series wins after 4 years. Lou took over an 80 point team and in 4 years has 5 series wins.

But to the dubas fan boys, Lou sucks and dubas is amazing.

You can't make this stuff up.

I think JT can still be an effective 3C, although the wing might be preferable.

I think the problem is that Dubas won't let Keefe play him that way, because of the size (and NTC) of the contract.

Dubas: His tenure will be judged by not being able to improve the roster because of overpayments to certain players ( you know, the guy who uses "shambles" out of context and blames the fans and who throws hissy fits).

Shanahan: The Shanaplan has proven to be flawed from hiring a rookie GM to refusing to act on abysmal playoff efforts.

I’ll be doing it with you from the comfort of my condo.

Stat brought up by Overdrive Boys, number of hits by the TML vs the Ducks…9. Seriously 9. Yikes.

Pull the plug on the season and basically fall on your sword Dubas. Trade everyone and get as many picks and prospects as you can from the non core. If we are lucky enough to get a lottery pick you take it and rebuild this team in the off-season. One of the big 4 needs to be moved.

All of JT's goals have been on the PP, as have been half his assists. Kerfoot, Clifford, Simmonds, and the hyphen twins are the only other forwards with no ES goals.

But seriously, Matthews and Marner are struggling. There’s nothing Bunting can provide more than what JT would playing on the left side with them.

I think the problem with that top line is that JT can't keep up with Matthews and Marner either, and Matthews has enough pull to keep him away.

I wouldn't mind seeing Matthews and Marner split up for a couple of games. Maybe:

Bunting - Matthews - Jarnkrok
Robertson - Nylander - Malgin
Kerfoot -- Tavares - Marner
ZAR - Kampf - Engvall
