I thought it was a great series and really enjoyed it. It's never fun to see your team eliminated, but no team beats Tampa in the playoffs these days. I'd rather have Toronto's season ended by this team than by Boston or Montreal.

I wouldn't make too many changes to the lineup. Do some tinkering and try again next year. I wouldn't rush to trade Nylander, but he should get a very good return if he is moved after the season he had and another productive playoffs

I agree. I think that if somehow, some good opportunity came where they could turn Nylander into another valuable piece, then pursue that, but this series could have easily gone in Toronto's favor. This isn't a "choke" job like the last two years. These two teams were good enough to play in the Stanley Cup final against each other.

Sorry - I made Glitchmarner post my response somehow...

No team beats Tampa in the playoffs these days? So whats the excuse when Tampa doesn't win the cup this year? Always so many damn excuses, its been 6 years, time to stop drinking the koolaid honestly.

It's like Leaf fans have a disease or something, you wanna know why the NHL will never be fair about us winning the cup? Because we always show up regardless, they get their cash and can award the cup to some non traditional market.

Leaf fans will never stand up to make a difference with their time, there's always next year might as well be tattooed on all of us.

At some point you have to start seeing this team without rose colored glasses, minor tweaks for 6 years now and every time a first round exit. I guess we'll just keep doing what we're doing and hope we're not crazy.

So, we are good losers and the Oilers are bad winners then? Feels good man.

It was also a little odd to think that Nick Paul outproduced our $40.4 m Fab Four Forwards.
You cannot compare the two. We just had to play the back to back cup champs round 1, they got to play a young team making the playoffs for the first time in years, lmfao.

Joke ass league. Pathetic officials 3rd rate league.

Sorry Leafs, y'all never had a chance against this bias joke.

Enjoy the successful season we'll get em next year. Whatever.
Brah just admit this team doesn't have what it takes to win. TAMPA has 2 cups already why wouldn't NHL let another team win?

as much as we need to keep Matthews look at the difference between him and McDavid.

The truth came out tonight in the playoffs.

McDavid is on a whole other level. Look at what he did in round 1 compared to Austin.

Matthews is great but is a step below McDavid. There's no more debating it.
Against the Kings? We would have beat the Kings in 5.

Maybe the leafs could beat the Kings in 5. Edmonton actually should have won games 1 and 5 if not for awful moves by Smith.

The difference is mcdavid totally put the team on his back I watch almost all oiler games and he was not going to lose game 6 and 7.

It would be like if leafs played la with no marner and Tavares played on one leg and Matthews had to dominated 30 minutes.

I didn't compare the two. You did.

All I said is that we can't kick the Oilers anymore because they actually won a playoff round (excludes 2006 as well).

If Kerfoot plays another game for the Leafs, they should all be fired. Game 6 we had it and he did his best to f*** it up for us.

Proud of most of the team, especially Matthews Marner Tavares and Rielly. They were beaten by a savvy team, but we had them on the ropes in Game 6. Thanks Kerfoot you dumb f***.

At least we will Barrie from the great trade
Oh wait

They showed stats before Game 7 where you could see that Tampa's stars Point, Kucherov, Stamkos and Hedman had one assist combined in 21 game sevens. Actually our mentally weak core outplayed their stars by country mile, but in the end it doesn't matter, because we lost. Though you could during summer think about that angle of mentally weak and no show.

Two time Stanley Cup winning core doesn't score in game 7 for few years. I don't see problem within Matthews or Marner this time, they took huge strides as players. Most players win something big when they're close to 30. Like Tampa's core did when all of their main players were 27-30 beside Brayden Point.

Here's the crucial difference and the obvious problem with the Leafs: the Bolts can actually close out a series in fewer than 7 games.

Tampa went into lockdown mode for game 7 a la Montreal/Columbus and we lost.

They grind it out like a real playoff game without their top player.
Defense plays a huge factor in that mode and they need to consider a core forward for a core defender.

Also our depth in Engvall/Mich/Kerfoot/etc., can all go. They couldn’t score in a pivotal moment to save their lives.

Right !!! Until Leaf fans stay away from other arenas around the league and STOP buying Leafs gear and memorabilia, nothing will ever change. Only if the revenue sharing paid to the NHL drops, will the NHL take note, otherwise, Florida hockey will remain the priority !!!

Bell and Rogers (MLSE) need to make a statement by firing the entire front office and coaches. MLSE could make so much more money if playoff successes were possible. The NHL doesn't want that.

Bettman got the Florida series he wanted. Some of the refereeing, especially in game 6, sure backed up the desire for the Maple Leafs to be OUT !!! When will Leaf fans take the hint and REJECT everything NHL ???

Well if you look those stats it means that those players have played from 3-6 game 7 each and like said scored combined one assist. We like to moan about our core and how they can't get it done. Actually those skill guys of Tampa can't get it done either, but their culture and depth has made it.

Grass isn't always greener in every possible way. It doesn't take the sting away one bit, but our key guys are starting to be creme de la creme of this league also in the playoffs.

Hopefully this series shows the flaws in the team construction. The players individually played really well. They competed hard and seemed a lot more willing to sacrifice their bodies to win. Yet, they lost anyway. Why?

Tampa Bay’s stars didn’t even play well. Sure, Hedman was a beast, but Kucherov was horrible. Point and Vasilevakiy were both pretty pedestrian. They still won. Why?

For Tampa it was special teams. Kucherov was held in check 5v5 but did most of his damage on the powerplay.

The Leafs PK didn't do a good enough job and the team took far too many undisciplined penalties.

The powerplay also couldn't deliver when it mattered.

Game 7 they had an unsung hero step up and take advantage of his opportunities.

Toronto's depth won them Game 3 (Blackwell, Kampf, Mikeyhev x2 all scored) but didn't produce much outside of that game. It's actually the opposite of previous years where random depth players would be among the team leaders in scoring but 2 or 3 of the top dogs would disappear. This year the depth didn't score while the top 5 guys did all the damage.

One - you forgot the Vasy stat which was 3 GA in his last 4 G7s combined. Yah their stars didn’t produce but their depth did and ours didn’t.

Final marks on the TDL moves I guess. Their TDL acquisition took us down. Love the irony in that.
Yup, the guy they can't keep did it and their key guy they bought with kings ransom was not to be seen. Irony.

We have been talking about retooling and rebuild. Way our stars play, we might have to really think about trading those pieces away. The narrative around them isn't right, but we have to assess and have to make some changes. We don't have that gear which Tampa had in 2nd and 3rd period. I think that is on coach.
