Obv a disappointing and predictable end to the season

Something needs to change with the core. Need guys that put it all on the line
Tavares is going to be impossible to move and he's the guy who should be shown the door in my opinion. Contract is getting worse by the day. I'm okay moving Willy for the sake of a major core shakeup. Kerfoot and his 3.5mil can go. Mikheyev and Engvall should be back if the price is reasonable. Kase was a great feel good story, but absolutely a ghost in the playoffs, so let him walk. Simmonds is already signed through next year, Spezza did nothing to deserve being shown the door....so league minimum and make it clear to him he's a rotational 13th forward who they value at this stage of his career. Blackwell was fun to watch, but likely isn't back. Holl should be traded. Gio should be re-signed. Lyubushkin I'd be okay re-signing for 1.5mil or less. Love Soup, hope he's re-signing here. Blast Mrazek into the moon. We could see a decent amount of turnover this off-season.

Tampa said we do not care where we finish in the regular season because we will beat anybody in the playoffs. Some teams walk the walk and then you have Dubas' Leafs. You seriously cannot bring this management team back after they doubled and tripled down on this group.
Oh but they will, and they might win 1 round and all will be forgiven. This organization is a complete joke

It has been a joke for 45-50 years since they won their last cup starting with the Mahovlich trade, who put a strong curse on this team. Unfortunately the joke is on it's loyal fan base while the suits, management and players cash their paychecks.

Hopefully this series shows the flaws in the team construction. The players individually played really well. They competed hard and seemed a lot more willing to sacrifice their bodies to win. Yet, they lost anyway. Why?

Tampa Bay’s stars didn’t even play well. Sure, Hedman was a beast, but Kucherov was horrible. Point and Vasilevakiy were both pretty pedestrian. They still won. Why?

What do you think the answer is?

I will take the 1 round at this point.

It's been almost 20 f***ing years since I saw them win ONE SINGLE PLAYOFF ROUND.

I've seen food prices double, rent triple, smokes cost 3 times more, in that time.

But the Leafs are still absolute losers, who give up the moment the going gets tough.

Mediocre blueline, very little “bite”, and lack of real identity from the “roleplayers”.
Only thing I'd agree partially with is the role players and its not for lack of identity, it's the identity they chose. There a heavy pressure, take away time and space line. They needed to be a little safer and chip in down the stretch

I am not even being melodramatic when I say I have no faith in this core. I would (in my own head not that it will ever happen), blow it all up and rebuild in the next few years because this team is so mentally weak it's insane to watch at times.

I would go so far as to say organization, not just core.

Let's be honest, when Point scored the OT winner in game 6, anyone over the age of 30 knew that this would be the outcome. We all tried to convince ourselves that this year was different, or "they were due", but we knew.

That feeling of dread was definitely there yesterday morning.

I'll say it was a different way to lose with the 5on3 in Game 6 and then the Tavares/Paul call back and missed calls though. Usually it's more of the first Paul goal where it's not even a SOG

Will be interesting to see where they go with their goaltending from here. Not much out there, but Campbell is definitely not the goaltender this team needs going forward.

The star for the Leafs was Campbell imo. If he hadn't played so very, very well, it would have been a smoke out. Hat off to Soup. He made it very competitive. Wish him nothing but the best.

Dubas will win some good things imo. I think Toronto got jobbed once again. Its an American league, and despite being a very valuable franchise for the NHL, its going to be tough for the Leafs to advance very far with the obvious biased officiating demonstrated.

YES, it was interference by Holl, mostly because he made it look so f***ing obvious, if he had any brains, he would have made it look like a complete accident and the refs might have swallowed their whistle.

I am very disappointed that Keefe went to Holl. The guy has this negative energy going in Toronto, and Liljegren has so much, the opposite way.

Game 6 OT goal isn't on any specific player. There's a turnover and soft play by Marner where he needs to cut Hagel off, but doesn't causing an odd man situation. Bunting is too slow/tired to rotate in support
Holl could hold Point and take a penalty, but he didn't do so and let Point crashed the net and scored.

Well, we loved to kick the Oilers because their lack of success. At least they've won a playoff round in recent times now. We should be more careful who we mock.
They suck ass. The kings are a minor league team compared to the lightning lmao and they still went 7

Meh. I’m not even mad. Last year vs the Habs I was mad. I’m just numb to it now. And we lost to a way better team than the one that beat us last year.

Blowing things up or firing everybody would be a bad mistake. Let’s not forget Tampa was a regular season powerhouse a few years ago and got swept by Columbus in the 1st round. They didn’t do anything emotional or drastic to their core, and now they’re b2b Cup champs with a shot at a three-peat. We just had the misfortune of drawing them as first round opponents despite finishing with our best record ever.

This team would have beaten anybody else in the East I’m sure of it. And if we would have gotten a different opponent, won, and met TB later in the playoffs with the confidence of slayed demons in our back pocket we would have beaten them.

We’re so close. Literally a couple of good bounces and a goal or two away for a couple of years now. We’re not out there getting swept year after year like some of the overreactions would suggest. The right move would be to continue tweaking and improving with experience. When we finally crack through the dam will burst and there will be no stopping us.

I would hate to make a bunch of drastic moves, fall short again next year, then have to wonder what could have been if we had just left things the way they were and let this group finish what they started. People are emotional right now and want to trade this guy or fire that guy but I don’t think it’ll have the effect you’re expecting. You do that stuff when you fail to make the playoffs entirely or get destroyed in a horrendously embarrassing fashion. That’s not what happened here.
No judgement here, but keep chewing on the moral victories and hypothetical futures if they taste sweet to you. Some of us can't stomach this poison narrative anymore.

Holl could hold Point and take a penalty, but he didn't do so and let Point crashed the net and scored.
And Marner could have made two harder plays, either prevents it. Matthews could stay on his feet and be on the defensive side of the puck. Sadly none of that happened and it ends up in our net.

Not a singular mistake caused that goal and the one your blaming basically has to take a penalty (according to you) to prevent it

Trotz is a great coach but he's a bad fit for this team. Trotz's teams are built around stout defense, low event hockey and good goaltending.

The Leafs are a more well balanced team that excels when they can impose a high event game on other teams. They can win low event games but it's not what the team is built to do.
What the Leafs are (theoretically) built to do isn't working. Changes MUST be made.

That's your opinion though. He is a defenseman, the last line of defense if you don't count the goalie, that's exactly what happened if a Dman was lost and did nothing to prevent a play from an opposing forward.

I thought it was a great series and really enjoyed it. It's never fun to see your team eliminated, but no team beats Tampa in the playoffs these days. I'd rather have Toronto's season ended by this team than by Boston or Montreal.

I wouldn't make too many changes to the lineup. Do some tinkering and try again next year. I wouldn't rush to trade Nylander, but he should get a very good return if he is moved after the season he had and another productive playoffs

So we're blaming the middle line of defense for a soft goal against, off a forward turnover and their (doubly) blown coverage.

Let that sink in for a second and consider if it's a reasonable take if you're trying to confirm your bias.
