I have been preaching this for a while. NHL doesn't give a f***, they know they're getting their money from us regardless. People here will still watch hockey even after the Leafs are out, and the Leafs will continue to give financial support to garbage hockey markets that aren't self sustainable. Leafs ownership and Shanny need to speak up, they shouldn't be giving a penny to the NHL.

I have no respect for the Lightning this series, a bunch of dirty players and cheaters getting favours from refs...you guys went from the 2nd most penalized team in the regular season to a much "cleaner" team than the Leafs (who is one of the least penalized teams in the regular season) these playoffs...your team should have lost in game 6 without the help from the refs for those two crappy fake high-sticking penalties that lead to the 5-on-3 to tie the game in the 3rd period. It's hard to beat a team when you also have to beat the refs.

Nick f***ing Paul;. I had never heard of the guy before this series. Looked him up on hockeydb and I can see why. Hat off to the Tampa replacement for Yzerman GM. Paul was a real nuisance all series long.

Even though the officials were awful for the most part. Tampa played 3/4 of this game without Point. They were ripe for the taking and they didn't get it done despite a solid effort. Gutted.

Point could have taken the night off and would have been understandable
But dude's a warrior. He knows he needed to be there for the team otherwise that would have been demorizliing and given the Leafs confidence

You know what, screw Bettman. If there's anything I'm glad about, the NHL isn't making $7 million per Leaf home game on a deep run.

If you run the numbers. The leaf playoff run nets less money for the NHL compared to regular season attendance of other US based teams (40 odd home games).

20K seats, on average 50 bucks a ticket = approx. million dollars / game. For 40 games you are looking at 40 million bucks for just one team. Throw in another US based team that is 80 million dollars approximtely for 2 teams if they sell out at 50 bucks on average ticket.

Leafs are gonna be sold out anyway in regular season. IN the long run it is more money for NHL if US based teams can rake in more money from regular season comapred to Leafs playoff run.

How can US based team get people interested in regular season? by having playoff runs.

That is why..... Leafs fans have to STOP spending money on NHL. If they keep spending the money they will keep getting the same BULLSHIT treatment. And then it is no one to blame but yourselves.

Look at the cream puff GM, he hasn't called out the BULLSHIT reffing even once. The coach hasn't called that out either

McDavid also threw a big hit in the first min of the game to set the tempo for the entire team. JT won’t do that. Matthews is not that type of player and I love Matthews. He is my all time fav Leaf.

As much as we jest about Matthews being better than McDavid that’s all it is. In jest. McDavid is on a planet by himself.

In fairness I think McDavid is the best player we've seen since Mario. He can simply do things that nobody else can

He allows them to not have to do the BS drop pass thing because he'll just go into the zone himself for possession when he's on.

Sid was playing insane hockey as well before the concussion let's not forget him.

As dumb as the Keith deal was I think the oilers did a good job getting high tempo big body wingers around him.

The gamble on Kane has definitely paid off as well and is one we're too afraid to make because of optics. The fact that half their D corps is the corpse of Duncan Keith and a list of our worst defenders from the last 5 years yet they still sacked up and shut it down when they needed is the attitude we need

Mcdavid didn't hesitate to call the D out as well which I don't think JT would ever do

Leafs lost by 1 goal to the twice defending champions. Oilers went to 7 games vs a team that wouldn't have qualified for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. McDavid is better than Matthews but his greatness needs a lot of asterisks. I think there's a lot of dysfunction to his game.

Last year hurt so much more, man. We had a f***ing red carpet to the finals and we chocked.

This year, even if we get by Tampa, I don't think we're the favourites in any series afterwards (Florida into Carolina into Avs).

They did ok this year.

Trotz is a great coach but he's a bad fit for this team. Trotz's teams are built around stout defense, low event hockey and good goaltending.

The Leafs are a more well balanced team that excels when they can impose a high event game on other teams. They can win low event games but it's not what the team is built to do.

Playoff hockey is low event hockey FYI. No time and space on ice and keep em to the outside. You gotta hit hard and on the forecheck finish checks to get space or free up the puck to make quick plays.
