Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose in Game 7. Again.

I'm not as angry as I thought I'd be. not like last season.... Im actually heart broken because I somehow actually believed they could do it.

But this just like last year still has me thinking.... like where do we go from here?
What changes can even be made that will change this outcome?
Are we actually cursed? like did someone use ancient black magic to f*** with us.
I never thought in a million years we would lose this consistent since we drafted Matthews and him, Marner and Nylander all broke out. we may have lost to WSH but we showed real promise.
I never thought a team this good could be this unlucky

Oh damn, you might be right. I made a mistake counting, my bad.
Actually, THEIR bad.

9 tries to win a single game in 5 seasons. So clearly the talent must be there to get 9 chances, but something is clearly missing. That's what needs to change and IMO it starts with the coach. And if the GM won't replace him, then he needs to go as well.

I feel though this Leafs team didn't "choke" like previous ones. They played well tonight. Losing to TB in 7 is not as bad as any of the previous losses. I would give it one more go and try to get over the hump next year before considering blowing it up.

If Dubas believes in the players the way we think he does, and if Dubas agrees with you, well … Trotz is available.

Just saying. There’s no way you can run this back without something big changing

playoffs in pro sports is all about defence and compete moreso than offence

we need better goaltending and defence

We allowed 2 goals tonight, 1 was off a missed holding the stick call. We scored 2 goals tonight, 1 was called back for a interference.

Things tighten up in these games, we need to find a way to squeak one out or force the bounce

Disappointed and frustrating.

Leafs couldn't get it done, and the NHL got a Florida rematch. Refs played far too much of a factor in this series, and it was absolutely a difference-maker. Tampa was allowed to play with grit, and we had to be squeaky clean (and we still were penalized more).

And I know there are people saying "We need changes" but that is easier said than done. You can fire Shanny/Keefe/Dubas/trade a core guy and you can bring in Trotz, but you are not guaranteeing any success. This isn't a "change for the sake of change" situation and Trotz, especially, would require a complete overhaul of the roster which would not be able to happen within a year. It is also not something successful teams have done in our situation.

This isn't a learning thing anymore though. These guys know what it takes. They have what it takes. However, they are also not the only ones who know and have what it takes, and in sports, you don't always get what you deserve. The Leafs, especially over the past 4 series losses, have epitomized that to a tee. And the best they can do is fight through it with everything they can and this year especially, it would be good.

I am at the point where I am not making stupid changes just for fresh perspective. The Leafs have never been in that situation under Dubas. We are probably at the point where a guy like Nylander could be used to restructure our team for the better (and not just for the sake of restructuring it), but this is not a team that needs to be blown up or radically change the way it plays. I think it is a team that needs to be a little bit more selfish and ultimately, it is a team that just needs some things that is mostly out of their control to finally fall into place.

Excited for next year!

Next year lineup will be interesting, I doubt we see any major changes but there should be a few

I think Mikheyev, Kase and holl will be gone or traded. Not sure about engvall who didn't use his size at all this series. Mrazek will be a interesting case, I think he gonna stay and get a proper look next season. We will most likely be seeing a new third line centered by Kampf or Kerfoot (Kampf plays the 4th line). Sandin and Liljegren play in our top 6 with gio coming back . Other then that, I think Roberston is the only other grauantee rookie . I am expecting to see a brand new fourth line and couple player for the third, nothing more.

Illya Mikaheyev
19 playoff games. 2 goals 2 assists. Both of those goals came in the same game
Only because Engvall felt so bad for him and passed it to Mika

Really dont' know why Leafs nation loves this guy so much.

Kampf, same thing. Where was he tonight? or game 6? He should be the 4th liner

Engvall sucked too

Our 3rd line was the difference

and F U Keefe for not stacking the line. Having a love affair with Bunting
Kampf had a good series but their bottom 6 were so much better than ours. Those are the types of players we are missing IMO.
