Carlo led the team in TOI and was a +/- 0

Other notables in +/-:
Tavares -3
Nylander -3
Robertson -2
Laughton -2
Rielly -2
Domi -1
McMann -1
Benoit -1
Myers -1
Stolarz .844 sv%

That's a rough game for the 2nd line especially considering the 1st line had the MacKinnon assignment. Encouraging game from Carlo imo.

This Marner stuff got tedious a while ago. At the end of the day, the leafs will give him more money than any other team. I still think that will be the deciding factor. The leafs will cave and give him what he wants.
This very well could happen. If Shanahan and Pelley interfere i think this is a likely outcome.

Treliving himself I'm pretty sure does not believe in Marner nearly as much as Dubas did and would jettison him without a second thought if he had the right opportunity.

The realist in me doesn't believe that this decision will be in Treliving's hands.

We will just have to see what happens.

It's at least partially dependent on the playoffs. If we lose in the first round then there's no justification whatsoever for keeping this core intact. Hell, there already isn't justification for it but we keep doing it anyways, as you correctly alluded to. If he comes alive in the playoffs, we will have to gamble on whether that improved performance is a feature or a bug. Is a single sample size in a contract year worth more than a bunch of other data points from previous years just because it is more recent? Who knows.

Who's the better captain? Tavares or Matthews? Says alot.

Matthews isn’t captain material at all. He’s more like just the superstar who has all the status-y items. He doesn’t bring energy, doesn’t defend his teammates, I’m not sure I’d categorize him as a lead by example. Is pretty inconsistent.

JT is buttoned down, boring cliche machine but he never sniped at the media. Neither guy seems that relatable.

Extremely well said.

Tavares sets a boring example but Matthews sets a bad example.

If he leaves this summer after refusing to waive oooooo boy
He'll be persona non grata in Toronto for the rest of his career, and it will make the negative reactions he receives now seem like child's play in comparison.

That is, unless the departure is completely team-driven, where they make it clear they don't want him back regardless, in which case he'll save face somewhat. Otherwise...this fanbase will go full Montreal-fan-psychopath.

Sounds like a bad game. I read apparently Benoit-Myers was pretty poor? Not sure why you wouldn’t try to insulate those two with McCabe and OEL but whatever.

Should give Laughton more than one game to acclimatize. He had a great night on the dot so that’s something. Frustrating to lose yet again while Florida keeps chugging along but there’s still time.

I can't help but feel he's received some dodgy advice from his team throughout his whole tenure here. Right back to the whole entry level bonus thing.
100%. Mitch always just defers to his agent and crew, but at some point he needs to realize that doing these dirty negotiations ultimately really hurts him in the end and creates a huge spectacle, and for what, a few extra mil? Dude is already loaded for life. He was beloved on his ELC and then turned into a pariah once that negotiation and contract happened.
