Keefe doesn’t learn
Tried to line match-resulted in poor line changes on the go and kept matthews and marner on the bench
For the first five minutes
Tampa clogged the neutral zone and we couldn’t move the puck. Keefe couldn’t come up with a plan just keep icing the puck or lobbing it out to center ice
Loaded the top two lines instead of making three lines with offense . Janrok lafferty kerfoot were non existent. Those three cant drive a line they are complementary players.

The only good thing is keefe dubas will be gone

He called a review for something different than what they reviewed... and basically every analyst/talking head on TV pointed out why he did it and agreed it wasn't a sure thing but it was worth the risk.

About that. I am perfectly happy watching AHL and World Jr's. I don't need the NHL to satisfy my interest in hockey if the league has become WWE rather than competitive sport.

I don't think it's really a conspiracy theory at this point. There is probably enough here to make it legal, they won't though because the Leafs make money regardless. The fans in Montreal would turn off the spigot if this kind of thing happened to them. They are certainly smarter in that respect.

Fair. I might not be remembering correctly! Thursday is going to be interesting regardless. Either the team has some semblance of a spine and responds or we all start to enjoy our summers and forget about the Leafs for a few months.

A bigger problem is that the team actually does have a spine and thats why the team always goes to max series. Need a call or a save in the big moments is all but my biggest fear is that even if we win the series we are just going to be fodder for a rested Boston team with Vezina level goaltending (just like Tampa).

The other replay was probably angular. It's just simply impossible for it to be against the post and be fully in. For instance, if the camera were directly above at the very least an edge of the puck would be on the line.

I agree about point two 100%. That is totally on Dubas and Keefe and the culture of the team.

Yes I agree about Matthews being a no show. The mess we are in, you need to think about moving on and rebuilding which means trading before NTCs.

I am completely over Keefe, I don't think he gets much if any of a reaction out of this country club.

I’m not going to blame the refs for last night but there were sure some very very soft calls.

At least the crosschecking embellishment would look more egregious in real time to the refs. There were 50 stick checks just like that in the game so it tells me the league has somehow moved on from if it knocks the stick out of hands/stick breaks/hit the hands is a slash to who the hell knows territory.

Samsonov was a top ten goalie during the regular season so it's all on him to get into the headspace to be a playoff goalie.

Outside of the officiating. 100% our management and coaching is trash but we have known that forever. Running on hopium here.

I still can't get over Holl on the 1st goal of the game though lol Perry slowly gliding around the net, right into Holl's direction...just f***ing hit him and that goal doesn't happen. Instead he just aimlessly waves his stick at Perry as he lets him move to the front. I have actually defended Holl from time to time around here but that straight up can't happen.

Nylander was on the ice for 2 of them.

He was better than he's been most of the season, but he wasn't exactly"on" tonight.

1 power play goal, 4 total shots, 0 hits, 0 blocked shots in 16 minutes doesn't exactly scream good playoff game to me in terms of effort.

We have people like Cleetus saying that Matthews and Marner have to be better:

Matthews with 2 assists, 0 goals against, 5 hits, 1 blocked shot, 3 takeaways, 18 minutes played and:



Marner with 3 assists, 0 even strength goals against, 3 shots, 2 hits, 1 blocked shot in 22 minutes with 4:33 penalty kill.


I mean, can those players be better?
Yes.

Did they play poorly?

Not in the slightest.

Back checking? Sure. He got on the wrong side of his man and skated back to help with the 3 on 2 he caused.if it wasn’t such a horrible pass he broke up that could have ended much differently.

Yup, might have the reverse of last year now with Liljegren subbing in for Holl this time around. Holl wsa better than Liljregren down the stretch and in games against Tampa but Liljegrens transition game looks like it will be the better move with them even more banged up on the backend to keep the pressure on their D.
