It's not inconceivable that this is a first round matchup. I could see the Islanders sneaking into the 8th seed.

There aren't too many teams that have a shot at the WC1 or WC2 spot that I wouldn't want TOR to play in round one. I wouldn't be worried about PHI or PIT. I think TOR can take NYR. There's really no reason to not beat BOS if that match-up happens again.

But I'd rather not have a first round series against OTT or NYI. A series against the Isles would be a bitch and I can definitely see TOR losing to OTT (although that's never happened in the playoffs to date).

I blame Matthews, he is s gutless puke lmao. On a serious note, the whole team played like sh.t. Isles fan disguised as a scheduler did a great job setting up a game between a team on b2b and the one that rested four days.

Woll is a scrub. Straight up, he sucks.

Such a rational, reasoned comment. I came here expecting someone to say something this monumentally stupid and assumed it would appear on the first page. Thanks for proving my assumption correct.

Ottawa would be the team that I would be most concerned about. A young team can go on a heater.

Goaltending and defensive play were poor

Just didn't have it tonight, we've played a lot of games recently so a B2B with chopped up forward lines because our best player and captain isn't fit was always going to make things tough

Disappointing but it's a long season and you're going to have these nights unfortunately

On to the next one

Could not overcome the terrible start.

Decent effort offensively. Attrocious defensively.

Woll's worst game of the season, but he had a lot of help.

Nothing to take from this game. But if they play like this vs the Jets, is going to be ugly.

When was the last time they outplayed an opponent?
Jets fan here in peace .
Serious question, do you think the Jets really can beat the Leafs. I think they have lost the last 5 or 6 to your team.

Not a lot of positives but that backhand goal by Nylander was a thing of beauty.
Might have been his best game of the season tonight, played really well.

I’d like to see McMann get a shot in 6v5 situations, especially with Matthews out. He has a terrific release and is one of few people who actually are a threat to score on the team.

Rielly played 22:45, Tanev only 18:58. I know we were chasing the game and we needed an OD, but really? He's our fourth best defenceman this year and a complete shit show defensively. Another -2 and now is a -9 on the season. No other defenceman on the team is a minus (other than Hakenpaa at -1 after 2 games). I know people don't like plus/minus but in this case it matches the eye test.

Leafs were never consistently big spenders even up until 2004. Even in their Quinn “glory years” the Leafs were usually in the second tier behind Detroit, Colorado, Philadelphia and New York Rangers for some inexplicable reason.
That reason is probably the value of CAD$, it was 65 cents on average between 1998-2004.

I agree with the bulk of your post but I think you have to add attacking play to the criticism.. basically everything struggled save for specials as there were none. Another night getting outshot 2-1... Just not a recipe for sustained success.
