No post game effort post since I'm at a friend's watching this. Just some notes.

Absolutely dogshit effort from every D except Benoit who looked locked in and OEL. Tanev and Mo were flat out atrocious.

JT has to stop playing like a bitch against his former team.

Woll shows flashes of greatness, but then has games like this that tell me he needs more time to 'get it'.

3rd line didn't score except McMann but looked pretty good.

On Matthews, some disclosure, please!

Peg the Jets Monday and all is forgiven, 2PM start = excuse to day drink.

yeah, lets blame Woll for this stinker.

marner and nylander mostly showed up

but

if your finishers ain't finishing, your d-men ain't defending and your goalies ain't goaltending then it doesn't matter how much you dance

you need a lot more than two players doing stuff to win

Too much went bad to just pin it on one person

Team was asleep for the first half of the first
Woll couldn’t have been worse this game, with 20/20 hindsight I might’ve pulled him after 2 goals, but definitely after 3. Team was a mess and he was kicking out pucks like candy.
I didn’t like marners game, assist included, felt a bit too perimeter and point play at times
Rielly was atrocious

We played a perfect game, as did the islanders so salute to both teams for playing the ideal hockey game 100% of the time
The way we played and you had to single out marner.
This agenda has to stop it’s not a good look anymore.
Yes he deserves criticism but he gets singled out. Tavares nylander knies domi mcmann all shit the bed at times in that game
Third game four nights against a rested team just move on . Schedule maker is to blame

He actually singled out Woll, Marner and Rielly, but you only saw Marner, and you talk about an agenda. Riiiiight

5th game in the last 8 nights .. second back to back in that stretch, including travel back to Toronto last night. Some tough scheduling, not surprising if they ran a bit out of gas tonight.

Regroup for Monday

I just don’t get what running out of gas has to do with throwing blind behind the back passes and pulling the chute on a puck race you’re winning in your own D-zone. If Rielly doesn’t beat Duclair out for that late icing, no complaints, it’s a long shift at the end of a long game at the end of a long 3 in 4 against one of the fastest forwards in the league who is rested. But he won that race, and then proceeded to voluntarily make a bunch of highly regarded decisions under minimal pressure.

Morgan Rielly is an instinct player who doesn’t think at all, but kind of reacts in a flow state of tunnel vision hockey. I feel like he might be closer to a rushing winger miscast as a top four defenseman. He can rush a puck, be the trailing man, make some pretty good counter attack offensive plays. But he is incapable of calming things down defensively, plays odd man rushes like a panicking forward and is all slop.

No D whatsoever. Im surprised it wasnt worse

Team played the night before so there would have been some expectation for Woll to stand strong while the team found its legs. He was weak and this was probably his worst start of the season. It happens.

These games are going to happen. Three games in four nights, a lot of hockey lately. To be honest, we haven’t been playing very good hockey in the last few weeks. Goaltending saved our asses too many times but couldn’t do it tonight.

Not to be too negative but this was the brain dead version of McCabe. Reilly stupid pinches. For a guy who produces so little offence he really is too ambitious. Time to give a long rest to Timmins. Hopefully we have a better start against Winnipeg.

Why are you taking it personally? There is no agenda I just called it as I saw it.

I “singled” him out because he’s the only guy who I didn’t like tonight. More often than usual he made the wrong play. Whether it was curling back, no look passes or just standing at the perimeter he wasn’t good tonight.

Nylander was good, domi was looking to shoot and created some chances, mcmann is on a heater and whilst wasn’t the best, he still had chances, besides both of them are depth so I don’t call them out as much. Tavares’s play was the same as always, resulted in no points today.

Marner was the only one who’s style changed today, it went to being more perimeter and at the point. That could be because he was tired, or because he just didn’t believe in trying today idk. Had nylander been like this I’d have called him out too, I don’t care about the players name.

Also I don’t believe in “scheduled losses”, anyone can beat anyone and we didn’t come out at the start well enough or get the saves we needed. It’s not like we were tied until the 3rd and then the wheels fell off, we started and ended badly.

Tbh I didn’t even single him out, or at the least it was the most tame

“I didn’t like marners game” vs Rielly was atrocious and woll was about at bad as possible

Idk man, maybe I’m alone but I thought Marner made a few bad plays more than he does usually.

So tired of losing to this dogshit team. December has been a disappointing month overall, dropping multiple games against mid teams.

Matthews will surely miss the game on Monday.

Leafs generally own the Jets but that will be a tough one for sure.
If memory serves, don't the Leafs usually win these holiday afternoon games? I remember a crazy high-scoring game against Carolina in 2019 where Marner had 5 points.

Not a good showing, but I can't complain too much considering the Leafs did win three games this week and this was their second game in two nights, third in four and fourth of the week.

There are some things I'm sick of, though:

!. Not starting on time and having poor first periods. It feels like the Leafs continually concede the first goal and have listless first periods and then start playing better.

2. Losing Saturday games to shitty/non-playoff teams. Losses to PIT, DET and NYI on consecutive Saturdays. Ugh. Have better showings on Hockey Night in Canada.

3. Why can't the defense and offense be good at the same time?! They became better defensively and harder to score on but declined a lot offensively. Now the third line is rolling and this was a good week offensively, but TOR is allowing three or more every game.
