It's the Oilers first win against Toronto since March 30, 2021. It's 2023, almost 2 years. Let them enjoy it, who knows when the next one will come.

Unfortunately for them, they don't get to celebrate it too long because the Leafs play them again next Saturday. Hopefully by then, all our new players will have played together and the team shows up.

McCabe and Lafferty played like it was their first time playing with the Leafs tbh, which it was so they get a pass. Schenn needs to come in and replace Holl as the 6th d-men. Samsonov also needs to make a save, why are his road stats so much worse than his home stats? It's crazy.

You're missing the point. My point is in light of Tampa's recent success, they deserve the benefit of the doubt. We've seen them step it up a notch in the playoffs when they have to.

Speed, or lack thereof from the backend if / when Holl McCabe Schenn are in the lineup at the same time will be a huge concern. Saw McCabe's lack of speed with my own eyes tonight. A pattern is emerging where we make the team much worse in our attempts to inject more physicality. I stand by my opinion we should have just went all in skill and chased guys like Kane after O'Reilly. We will actually be relatively the best in that department so we can get away with being softer than opponents. Now we're just tied skill wise and weaker in other areas compared to our first round (edit - playoff) opponents.



I mean, I really like McCabe from an isolated point of view, he's a dress-and-forget reliable bottom pairing D...was he the best move based on our team makeup and 1st round opponents?.....highly doubt that. This game sort of showed that. We didn't capitalize on the finishing touch after adding O'Reilly and the cash flow for trades evaporated into thin air on things we shouldn't have chased (Sandin counts as cash flow for trades).

Would give them 4 games more , but if this is how it will look u need to change Nylander and Marner again. Better to have two ok lines then one good line.

Sandin has excellent hockey IQ and can move the puck with his effective passing ability. You don't need footspeed to be quick when you can read the game. Our best defensive stretch came this season when Reilly was out, and Sandin's positional play was big part of that. Sandin was also in his early 20s.

Engvall is a fast and effective third liner that can chip in 15 - 20 goals a season. He does his job effectively for 2.5 million dollars and he is in his mid 20s.

You need cheap and effective role players to be successful in this league. This organization likes to give away young assets for magic beans.

1-Sandin played weaker matchup amoint regular D all season long

2- the reason why leafs looked better eith rielly out was because goalie played their best hockey of season at this moment and didn't allowing weak goal.


For last game. The game turned in edmonton favor because of samsonov, first 2 goal of the game cant go in, the third one he slide to his left for no reason and get beat in his right...samsonov killed the momemtum and leafs didn't show up rrst of the game. Thats why i hope Murray will be healthy come playoff because leafs gonna need him... under pressure i have trust more murray than samsonov

After a good sleep... I think Leafs will be fine. I agree they definitely still need another LW and they need to be 3 lines deep. In the 3rd when Keefe changed it up we looked better. It took him way too long to make adjustments. Our 4th line looked great too.

Random kinda but McDavid is on a different level No doubt. Oilers played decent but Leafs played like shit and I still say without McDavid that team would be brutal. He's the only forward on most nights in the league ... its like having a number 1 goalie who wins you games. Oilers record without him is below 500.

On the first goal Marner skated the puck up the ice while penalty killing. Instead of dumping it in he tried to stickhandle around a few players, giving up the puck. Edmonton went in and immediately scored.

Keefe doesn't call Marner out by name, but said this: “The way we started the penalty kill against the No. 1 power-play in the history of the NHL — we get our first exit, give it right back to ’em. Like, we’re not serious about winning when that’s the case,” Keefe said. “Those are our regular penalty-killers, our top people. That’s how we started the game, and didn’t get much better from there.”

Clearly calling out Marner. We know how this goes. We'll likely hear crying from Marner later today, and a backtrack by Keefe.

@francis246 I think Keefe did "indirectly" call out Matthews as well. A comment about some key players not playing with "purpose or intelligence".
