If Prime Ken Dryden was in the game he doesn't let in that 3rd goal which turned out to be the winner.
:deadhorse

Didn’t love the third goal - but hardly a case to blame Jones. Puck luck, no coaching adjustments and no power plays were the difference.

Solid effort - not the result we want.
1 game, no big deal.
What got me is that the entire reason Schneider was wide open on that 3rd goal is a bit of blatant interference by Blake Wheeler...

One of the better games all around from the leafs. Sometimes the bounces don't go, sometimes they do. I'd be happy with this effort game in game out.

Good on the rags, very solid team with a great back end. I'd love to see a playoff series between these teams.

On to the next game.

Hopefully, some puck luck will follow if our Leafs work a little harder.

When Matthews tied it early in the 3rd, I thought our Leafs might at least earn 1 point. It was NOT to be on this night. :(

Yeah he is back to his peak level I believe. 11 goals and 16 points in his last 8 games now

Both guys seem like they're wired to take advantage of weaker competition at a lower league but can't help themselves making higher danger decisions when all they need to do is make the reliable and predictable play. Robertson's Yakupov game, busy on dekes, quite a bit of flash but zero productivity and Timmins turnover prone style, weak body positioning aren't that encouraging. The risk to reward benefit just isn't there.

To be fair to Robertson, he's playing less than 50 games in the NHL so far and at 22 it's fair to say he's still got at least a bit of development left, especially considering how much time in the past he missed injuries

There was nothing he could on most of those goals. What more do you honestly expect from a 3rd string goalie?

I'd even add -- what do you expect from a 1st string goalie? Maybe, maybe the goal where the guy walked around JT you'd like a save. Even that wasn't a horrible goal, but it wasn't like it was unsaveable, either. That was a good performance by Jones and on nights where the puck isn't ricocheting into the net off of our own players, he likely picks up the win and does it in pretty good fashion for any goalie.

Robertson's certainly not benefited from all the developmental time missed but with a lot of these AAAA guys it's often not clear cut what direction he needs to go in.

Can he be a high risk but higher reward player doing what he does out there being a fearsome sniper who can be less than great defensively? Or are we reigning him in to be a more responsible but less impactful producer?

Robertson's a tricky blend of smaller, not fast, not that strong, not that responsible/average IQ/poor vision. But works really hard and has a uniquely scary offensive weapon. It's not clear what he can become with those parameters.

The team was ok - not great, but could have won.

Three pucks in on bounces off the D, and JT doing his best pylon impression.

Other than being way out of position on the fifth, you can't blame Jones much.

Great sniping by Matty.

JT's point streak ended at 7 and Mitch's at 4, but Matty is up to 5 and Willy stretched his to 9.

What strange world is this with an appropriately balanced response to a just one of those games loss on HFLeafs?

Coulda won, didn't. Two good teams. Good game from both squads, one got the bounces, see you for the next one NYR.
