I came in a few minutes before JT scored in the 2nd, off of a nice play by Timmins. The rest of the way in I found the game to be fairly equal. Last minute of the game my feed commented that JT was 50% on the dot. He then won 3 consecutive draws in the O zone before they tied it up with 6 seconds left. Congrats JT on 1,000 points. That's just an awesome personal achievement.
Looking at the post game video, I'd say Sammy was at fault on the first, not a good look. The 2nd, no chance, lost coverage in front of the net and it's roofed. The 3rd, which seems to stick in many's craw, I don't fault him. The puck was iced and then the sequence of Lagesson losing his man between the center line and our blue line, Samsonov letting it slide through as he should for the icing, but Timmins dogging it from outside the blueline allowing (on 2nd and 3rd viewing it may have been Nylander dogging it with Timmins coming in late from the far side) regardless, both Timmins and Lagesson end up deep off the left post doing nothing to help, while Matthews doesn't corral the puck behind his net where it ends up on Nelson's stick and Matthews makes a fly by up the right post, then positioning himself for a perfect screen on Sammy. If you want to see a pic of 5 guys watching the puck, check out the view from behind the net's cam and you'll see 5 guys doing sfa. NYI have 2 point shot options, Palmieri in the slot with the puck and Engvall alone at the right post. The OT winner was a good shot by Horvat.
Just prior to that OT winner, there was a two on one after the stretch pass by McCabe. Problem was Mitch coasting to the net instead of driving hard and offering the option to AM, and Horvat was able to easily close the gap and then circle wide right after the save and move up ice, while Mitch went below the goal and AM was essentially out of the play after fighting for his rebound.
Decision making, poor defensive structure, and Sorokin won the game for the Isles more than Samsonov being trash, imo.
And JT, well done sir.
