Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose 4-2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

It’s always amusing to see the emotional roller coaster of some Leaf fans.

All the bridge jumpers of today will suddenly become bandwagon jumpers after the Leafs take a 1-0 lead in their first round playoff series.
And then when the Leafs lose game seven we will be right back here again. I honestly believe fans understand this hence the complete lack of excitement for the post season.

Marner signing for more than Matthews is a certainty. MLSE is scared of their own shadow, it took 10 years of abject failure just to convince them to commit to a rebuild. They will cling on to these "stars" and milk them for as long as possible.
Short of a deep playoff run, the team needs another Black Monday like it had when Shanny started. Preferably with somebody competent in charge.

you can't watch a team get hemmed in their zone and get get 12 shots through 2 periods every game and expect them to win a 7 game series

It's simply not possible. And if you magically do...you sure as hell aint beating the odds again nevermind 4 times

There is nothing wrong with adding a 28 year old top 4 6 5 RHD signed for 3.5 x 3. That was a good move any time of year.

Minten was barely ppg in his d2 year in the whl and quillan looks better.

I don’t mind this. At least they didn’t spend
1,2,3 on foligno and like all the mid round picks for Rittich the Anaheim guy a guy who didn’t play for us.

Or 1 2 3 4 for o Rielly and accari for like 10 games.

Thats what kills you. I would rather trade a first for a top 4 d for 3 years then multiple seconds and thirds
To me they’re the same thing they’ve been the whole time. The core has shown no growth and adding at the trade deadline like we have has made no difference. I thought it was a good year to stand pat and see if the coaching change would get them to up their playoff game.
The help they need has to come from within these guys. If they show they’re willing to get bruised and bloodied and come back for more the next shift then you make moves. Until they show growth you’re basically buying lottery tickets and praying for a miracle.

I guess our differing opinions are based on whether we felt they were already a legit cup contender on March 6th or not. Because if they weren’t, Carlo and Laughton imo weren’t going to turn them into one.

It’s the incessant overreactions - - for losing and for winning - - that Leaf fans have .

I was downtown two years ago when Toronto eliminated Tampa in game six, and it was so cringeworthy to see a bunch of assclowns chanting “we want Florida”. It’s bad enough to make complete fools of themselves, but don’t embarrass the entire franchise with such a ridiculous overreaction.

Don't think we have to worry about anyone getting on the Leafs bandwagon due to playoff success

I agree. I think it might be time to cut all losses and just rebuild come offseason after a sad and early playoff exit.
How are they gonna rebuild? No first round picks for the next three drafts and limited futures. Can't even tear it down due to all the NMC's anyway, won't be able to add anything significant for a while to bolster the team through trade. If they don't get it done this year it's over and a short/medium term future of mediocrity likely awaits.

If they can't get these guys to move I think they're completely boned until Matthews comes off the books and maybe they're bad enough to bottom out again.

What exactly are you arguing here that they won't make a game 7 ? I doubt they will either but history shows that they normally do. The fact you felt the need to challenge such a small detail though shows you're so frustrated with the teams performance you're not processing correctly.

Agree 100%.

It’s refreshing to finally see a rational and well reasoned comment following a Leafs loss.

Ya I’m kinda losing interest in the tml. Used to look forward to every game and was full of anticipation of finally ending the cup drought. Now I just hope they make it a series against their 1st round opponent.
Low expectations are all they’ve left me with.
The weather is improving which is great, less reason to stay in the house and watch this team

Hopefully it's a great summer and then we get into football. Despite the heartbreaking losses the Bills have had these last few years, Josh Allen is a dawg and I believe in him more than I ever will in these leafs

This. We usually go into the playoffs looking OK. I'm starting to think Berube is making them play playoff hockey early.

We were at least a bit better tonight than against FLA. But that's not saying much

Berube doesn't know how to get what he needs to win out of this group. He isn't smart and his style suits only a portion of the players. It's a big waste of time. They may as well just fire him and bring in Boudreau or something on an interim basis and see if he can take a middle ground approach.

I'm agreeing with you. LOL

Walk the talk there Auston

As usual, wasn't until 3rd period until we saw Marner going to the net, crosschecking the opponent... instead of playing 30' from the net.

It's been the typical routine for Marner this year. Soft in the 1st and 2nd then sudden come out in the 3rd and actually be going to the net (albeit reluctantly). The line looks alot more dangerous when he's there too...which is why it's even more frustrating that he goes there so rarely.

He threw a bit of a dirty crosscheck late in the third with the goalie pulled.. think it was Chabot who came looking for him after the whistle for it. How much would it inspire his teammates if he did that more often? Ruffling feathers with the opponent. Sjowing some passion, heart? That is what Gilmour could do. But that was the VERY first borderline dirty crosscheck I've ever seen Marner do.

I absolutely agree with this, we can't move the core so might as well try another coach until we can move them.

His kinda coaching requires players to have pride in themselves and their game

Something these guys don't have.
