OK, that confirms what I thought about Nylander.

You could be right...CHI treats their stars pretty well, and after Kane and Toews are gone, they could use a centrepiece.

Maybe the hockey gods will take a time-out from kicking us in the beanbag and give the #1 pick to Arizona. THAT would lead to some interesting speculation.

How would it feel if all of a sudden, AM, MM were gone and our top line was Bedard, O’Reilly and Nylander?
There is not a single universe where the Coyotes give us Bedard for Matthews.

In typical Leaf fashion they’ll win the next 3 and then the pressure will eat them up in game 7 and they get dummied. The stars on this team are soft, weak mental midgets
I would have thought ROR could help but all reports are saying he has a broken foot or toe and is limping around the dressing room.

SIGH!

I'd be happy to sign him at the right number. Problem is he went from 990K to 11.634m for 5 years looking to break the bank on his next deal. Dubas blew it big time and now Matty has the Leafs by the balls.

That’s why I want Dubas gone and a new GM brought in. Get someone in here with fresh eyes to evaluate everything and everyone. The new GM would have no emotional ties to any of the players whatsoever.

Which is why you have the conversation. Youre not telling him next steps in "hopes" that he likes it, youre coming to an understanding that some pieces need to move. And hes either with us moving forward or hes choosing not to be, but we need to know soon
Oh sure and what? You end up being the blue guy in the corner holding your breath waiting for his call as the clock strikes NMC?

Matthews isn’t giving this team a discount. He signed for 5 years so he could hit free agency early. He’s going to max out on his next deal. Dude is me first, trade him and Mitch and blow it up
Blowing up the tean would be a huge mistake because they traded away their 1st round picks and have nothing coming up. Retooling is the answer not rebuiding. Blowing up sounds like an irrational fan after many years of disapointment, understandable, but not rational thinking.

I guess you need to have handled difficult conversations before to get it.

You have a plan in place and execute, if it falters, you change course and narrative. You dont operate in fear and hope, you plan and execute.

You think Matthews will purposely become a villain here, sit through a full year of misery, just to spite the team when he can start moving on immediately without the hassle?

You think Bill Armstrong would trade Bedard for one year of Matthews? Not sure if that's the speculation you speak of but Arizona management would only sign Matthews after he's a UFA for free. You don't trade the incoming greatest player in the world for one year of Auston Matthews. If Matthews leaves for Zona, he'll do it next year and he'd need to take a hometown discount.

Absolutely pathetic. The core forwards aren't showing up this series and it shows. Not one goal scored from them yet.

Last night:

The 4 D who had shots (Schenn, McCabe, Rielly, Gustafsson) = 8 shots combined
Core 4 forwards = 7 shots combined

Kampf and even Gustafsson both had 3 shots each. None of the core 4 reached 3 shots.

This is bullshit. I guess they were more concerned with winning the first round series than the CUP.

Clearly Matty would have to be willing to resign with Zona if there is deal to be had. Bedard will be good but not sure he will be "greatest player in the world" good.

The issue I have is everyone gets more expensive with no hope of anything changing. The window for this group is shrinking. Matthews is going to get around 15-16 mil a year, Mitch eventually will get around the same, Willy the same. And we’re going to pay them for what? Annual 2nd round exists? No thanks

I think that's the thing with this group. Other than Rielly, can you say anyone plays their heart out? That they battle to the end? Because I could stomach losing if they give 100% and battle
All we have now is to play for self respect.
I don’t know what will happen but if Florida does win, make sure they remember us on our way out.

None of the bottom teams. Why would a rebuilding team trade the 1st overall for a soon to be UFA in Matthews, and have nothing to put around him yet.

Zero chance. Arizona is in the middle if a long rebuild. They are taking in contracts to get to the floor. They aren't even giving up the Ottawa (12) pick for Matthews. Armstrong won't even take the call from Dubas. The only way Matthews comes to Arizona is if he takes a big hometown discount. Next year.

I am conflicted, I still want them to win but I don’t want to see them stretch this series out to 6 or 7 games and lose. I am afraid that will give everybody an excuse to just run it back next season again. There shouldn’t be any moral victories anymore.

Discount is not in the Matthews English dictionary. He'll be traded before July 1st if he is not willing to resign here if Leafs management has any brains, which they do not so my guess is they overpay him, again.
