Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose 3-1

You knew Florida was going to be rabid after losing 5 straight, and after we won 5 straight we were due for a loss. These things happen. We seriously needed a few stinkers going into the playoffs as going in on an 11-1 or 10-2 run would mean we were due for some bumps. get then out of the system now and start the playoffs refreshed and hungry. Play better tonight.

Florida were better team .. Woll was only guy who showed up .. Rielly gave game away in 3rd .. Matty can't hang in fast playoff games .. Willy had a poor game .. Robertson and Domi and McMann and Knies tried .. oh well maybe best result as Tampa v Florida is best situation for this team for playoffs
Tampa we have a shot. Florida...well, I think we all know how that story ends.

The thing is, no team wins the Stanley Cup without either BEING a heavy team or GOING THROUGH a heavy team. If this team never figures it out against teams like that they'll never win anything, so the conclusion is that maybe winning the Cup isn't as important for them as it should be.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
It actually blows my mind how happy some people are with this bunch. All those consecutive years making the playoffs means to some people that we're the best team in the NHL. And those playoff losses, I mean there seem to be thousands of excuses for those, it sure isn't on the players LOL.
They’re mentality has never been in it to win it, they’re well paid and do just enough to appease the sheep. Jersey sales just keep on trucking……..

Matthews has been crap all year, for that matter. I'm sure it's partially injury related but that's not an excuse.
If he is indeed injured, he should just sit out and take care of the healing. If he needs surgery, he should just have got that done already too.

He's not getting any younger, and waiting an injury out like this just extends the misery IMHO. Why extend the injury into NEXT SEASON ???

JMHO.

If the surgery puts him out until next year, do you still want it?

If it is surgery, I hope they time it so he comes back for the playoffs next year, although we have very few assets to get good players.

I'm sure they have thought about 30 different ways to handle this and are doing it the best it can be done (or at least what they think is the best).

No way I’d give JT more the 5mil on a short term deal. JT’s not the problem, but he’s also not the solution, he’s made his bank if he wants to stay in his beloved Toronto he needs to take a serious haircut. Imo, of yhe four overpayed forwards he’s by far the mist likeable……..
So strange that fans value Mitch so much more than JT
Mitch 24 goals 94 points
JT 37 goals 71 points
For 13 less goals albeit 23 more points, concensus is Mitch is worth 12 plus and JT is worth 5. Fans willing to pay 7 plus million more for that difference.

Absolutely 100% agreed.

Playing through legitimate injuries in the regular season is irrevocably stupid and shortsighted. You always pay for that sort of thing in the end, and I'd rather pay that tax in the regular season than the playoffs when you need to be healthy at the start in order to make it through the living Hell it takes to win.

That's why hockey is so great...because of the sacrifice it takes to make it through to the end. If it were easy it would be boring.

We lose tonight we’re playing Florida
I understand that's the standard negative Leafs' fan reaction, but it's not accurate. In any event, I doubt it will matter because the Leafs will likely beat Tampa tonight and the only remaining question will be whether Montreal passes Ottawa.

For the record, I’m not onboard with 16 getting anywhere near 12 plus, leafs would be better off with two 6 mil players than having 16 return for that overpayment, let some other team make that mistake…….

If he needs surgery, yes I want it done NOW !!! Maybe it should have been done already !!!

He's not able to play HIS GAME at the moment, and that IS NOT helping our Leafs.

JMHO.

Better yet, they could get 4 Laughtons for the price of a Marner...

It is helping them because he is still the 1st/2nd best player on the team...

Surgery I am sure would have been done had it brought him back for the playoffs and is needed.

Hope you’re right. If we do lose that’s 100% accurate though. Tampa is 1st we are 2nd.

He has been INVISIBLE for far too many games this season. He has been more of a passenger than the 1st or 2nd best player on the team EVERY GAME !!!

Tavares has been more consistent this season than Matthews has !!!

What a idiotic reply…….

What 6 million dollar players? Likely will be via free agency, which are usually overpayments, so I think applying names to the replacement is better than just saying "Marner is not as good as two 6 million dollar players".

Chicago signed Teravinen and Bertuzzi last season to 5.5 each, that is an example... I'd rather Marner.

I don't disagree he has been disappointing, but I am just voicing that likely, if he needs surgery, it would have taken him out of the season, and he is more valuable to us in the lineup than out, even injured.

I don't want Domi as our 2C.

I think you underestimate this Tampa team. They are much better and deeper than they were earlier in the season. Leafs better stay out of the penalty box or this one could be over quickly.

I'm not underestimating Tampa. They are good at home, terrible on the road, and the Leafs have pretty well dominated them this season. I think they are very likely to be a first round exit no matter which team they play.

Well they are playing at home, Leafs played last night and 1st place is on the line so we know Cooper will have his guys ready. Would be nice if the Leafs team that beat LA show up. Stollie is the key IMO.

I’d rather sign JT and have 7 plus available to sign another player.

Actually, if they target getting better all around players than Laughton, that might be more helpful. At the moment, Laughton hasn't preformed as was expected by management.

There's still the last few games of the regular season, and then the playoffs, for him to make a turnaround.

I'm just not sure Laughton can handle being a Leaf !!!
